I'd be happy with a fifo boilermaker role to brisbane all these jobs and still struggle to crack it in to the mines as I'm only 6 months trade qualified best ZI am doing is in rockhampton working for joy mining making under grouns vehicles miners and breaker feeders.
There was an article in the paper of people paying thousands and still can't get a job yet they are claining labour shortages and about to start flying in foreign labour Go figure.
I have trade papers and standard 11 induction and couldn't get a start in over 50 jobs I applied for.
I thought the safety courses were all changing this year and the whole structure of oh&s

I have cert 3 ohs and also a rep at work, nothing has come through of any changes to the ohs act or regs (not i wa at least). That is damn cheap for the diploma lvl. Most of the mines in wa that want ohs people are wanting minimum cert 4 ohs in company with cert 4 tae (training and education new name from jan 1 this year).

I have my over head bridge and gantry cane ticket over 5 ton and lost it called to get it replaced and they said don't worry as of this year you don't need it only high risk activities like fork;lift etc. I said what about cranage they said now it's in house training and need to be deemed compatant buy the employer like I'd wanna be around guys with no formal training moving the 60 ton miners at work an out rage I reckon

Far out that sounds cheap im doing ohs diploma at the moment and it seems a lot more involved than the description of that dip. That sounds more like cert4. the dip im doing goes into developing entire ohs systems policies/procedures blah blah blah and so on. and cost me more than 8x that!! if it is what it says go for it

Hey Macca,
i am a crane operator on the mines (construction) and i at the moment most companies in WA are flying eastern states over... the site i am on specically seems to be hiring more eastern states than wa now. you really shouldnt have too many problems getting work... pm if you want details of companies and direct numbers to HR as i have quite a few!!!

I think if I ever decided to stray away from graphics later on, I'd get into something like OH&S. I've only done a 5 day course to be a worker representitive but it's interesting stuff.
Better yet, I reckon you would get paid a fortune to be an OH&S adviser or something over at the mines.
Or I.T. which I'm thinking of doing a diploma in via correspondance. General support specialising in Networks.

no dis respect to any HSE guys here but they are the most disliked on site... they all seem to be on a massive power trip, have only come across a couple of descent ones, and in general they dont seem to have half a clue, so many of them are doing it as the only way they can get into the mines because they are not capable of anything else...
again no disrespect to anyone here that may have that roll and yes there are some exceptions that genuinly have a construction/mine/oil and gas background that do want to see a safer better environment!!

Move to tas then apply for a job in the mines on the mainland....no kidding, they love to hire Tasmanians. Not sure why. Quite a few of my mates have simply "walked in" to jobs over there. A fella I've know for years as a bit of a sh!t kicker, no qualifications at all, jumped on a plane and a month later was on $78k a year doing "maintenance". Not sure what the company is.....

The reality is providing you have a dip in OH&S they usually wont ask for the modules involved in the course as its all the same qualification according to the AQTF for instance this course the Diploma of OH&S is code: BSB51307
The same could be saif for degrees. I would employ a bachelor of business student from melbourne Uni before uni of QLD as I know the modules from melbourne are better and more practical to a business needs but at the end of the day they are both a bachelor in business.

hiya Bazz....
being 50 i dont reckon makes any difference to be honest with ya!!!! i am currently at Karara with AGC their number is 62104629 (that is HR.. Nicola is one to chat to i reckon). as far as those tickets are concerned.... the smallest crane we are using is 70 tonne roughy's so C6 is a bit small but definately the rigging and scaffolding tickets are a go and AGC is manning up at the moment!!! if you go the scaffolding or rigging way it wouldnt hurt to get ewp ticket (WP) and if going the cranes direction maybe do C1 or CO there is plenty of work around for them!!
give AGC a call they should have something, they are hiring eastern states at the moment because they reckon they cant get WA people!!

HOLY COW :bowdown::bowdown::bowdown:
That is obscenely cheap. Indeed I have never seen a Cert 4 Course offered for that price. Cert IV's are normally $1,000 to $1,500
OHS Diploma is normally 4 or 5 Thousand dollars... $799 is unfreakinblvbl

thanx scotty, got ewp ,lf, wah, senior 1st aid , cert 1 safety , the diploma seems real cheap , hope its not a scam, there are some cheap patrols /cars for sale in news papers, that are scams, ive had emails back from them saying deceased estate etc , just seems too good to be true.... time will tell.
