Hi - Question about bubbling dash
Hi Everyone,

We think we have found the place to be if you own a Patrol!

We own a 2004 GU IV PAtrol ST. It is the best car and we love to take it off road, but especially the beach.

We have a lot of bubbles on our dash. After reading on your forum, we found out we might be able to get it replaced. So, my husband rings around and finds out that we can't. The truck is too old. BUT Nissan Australia said they have a record of our Patrol having the dash replaced in 2006 and said they would supply the dash, but we would have to pay for labour. So, my question is Should we have to pay for labour? The second dash is less than 6 years old and has bubble over about 60% of the dash. I think Nissan should pay for the labour. I would love to hear from anyone else that has had to have a second dash replaced. Thanks and we look forward to being part of this online community

Well!

The number for Nissan Australia

Call this Number

1800 035 035

I spoke to a lovely lady at Nissan Australia by the name of Ilyana who assured me that there was definitely a Service Campaign for vehicles upto 6 years old. The warranty would not be extended, unlimited Kms.

The dash will be replaced at no charge to me and she will email Werribee Nissan to advise them to review the Service Campaign.

Do not rely on a dealer to make this decision. Get it sorted. No question.

As mentioned above, I had mine replaced yesterday and the Invoice for $0 had the following info on it.

Campaign AWB-008/10 VIN range JN1TCSY61A0360001 - JN1TCSY61A0365922

So it looks like if your GU fits within this VIN range and has bubbles on the dash then your local Nissan dealer should happily replace it for $0.

Check your VIN

I was in the dealership today and asked the Spare Parts guy about a warranty or recall on Patrol dash pads. He asked: "Bubbling?" Yep.

He advised Nissan was replacing the dash pads on Patrols UNDER 7 YEARS OLD. Just book it in with the Service guys.

He also mentioned that there are no BLACK dash pads in stock. So, a dark grey pad will be supplied.

[He also mentioned that that dealership kept 1 dash pad in stock, so, should not have to wait for back-order.]

My second replacement dash has been in now for just over 14 months, so far so good, the dreaded bubbling hasn't returned yet (touch wood).

Looking good for you isn't it. Dont take No for an answer!!

Could also check the Recalls Australia website, they should list recalls available to every make / model of cars and bikes

That is true but Nissan are Scumbags! they did not do a vehicle Recall but rather a "Service Campaign" so this search will come up a blank damn it. Go with the 1800 number at the top.

Cheaky buggers, i wouldve thought they would be bound by recalls if there is known issue

Hi,
just spoke to Nissan and the guy (Alan) said the replacemenet dash campaign had almost come to an end and they would still only supply the dash, but not pay for labour. I asked the question that the second dash is less than 6 years old, Alan said it was to do with the age of the car, not the dash. So, fnal answer - YES to supplying the dash, but no to paying for labour. It would cost about $400 for labour, unless one of you fine Patrol owners knows where we could get the dash replaced a bit cheaper. I assume it would have to be a dealer, we are in Brisbane. Thanks again for all your answers. If you know anyone out there with bubbles on their dash and their Patrol is less than 6 years old, get it fixed now. Pretty sure Nissan is going to pull the plug on this soon!!!

Hey Jam, you'd be the first guy in 2 years that has paid the labour charge!!! NO WAY!!! Did you speak to Nissan Australia? or local?

I would take it to another dealer, play dumb, tell them nothing, ask the question, tell them that you had read somewhere that the bubbles are covered under a service campaign and can they replace it. Dont mention the second dash. There are others that have had this done in the last couple of months. Outrageous.

Push HARD mate, do NOT pay.

Hi,

That was direct from Nissan. They said because the truck was more than 6 years old that they won't pay for labour. But I argued the 2nd dash was less than 6 years old they should pay for labour. Nissan wanted nothing to do with it. So, not too sure what to do now. Our truck is a 2004. My husband and I have spoken to Nissan separately to two different customer service and got the same answer. Any advice would be appreciated :-)

JamClan we have just had the dash replaced on our dash and our car is a 2005 model. Nissan insisted they would not do it as it was well out of any warranty. We contacted our local consumer affairs and Nissan direct. After about a week they got back to us and we had the dash replaced yesterday at no cost to us. We were very relieved. We did feel that they should do it as the initial product used was obviously not suitable for the job.

The dash on our '05 was replaced just over a week ago, at no charge. It was pretty much handled trouble free. I contacted Nissan Australia approximately 5 week ago, from there I contacted the dealer they took pictures and sent them to Nissan Australia. I was contacted by the dealer within two days to confirm that it had been approved by Nissan aust. They had also told me that I was on the cusp of the cut off, given that our rig was just inside the 7 years. It was built in march '05 so we just made it.

I do agree with you though. You should not have to pay for the labour on a second replacement because in my view it should not need to be replaced! Nissan should have rectified the flaw in the dash and be providing newly constructed dashes that are fault free. Alternatively continue replacing dashes at no charge.
