Well, just filled up after 220 km and put 25 litres of diesel into it. This works out to be around 11.3l/100km which is great news(all town driving) :) . As CRD's can be very thirsty, I think I might have got a good one.
This should hopefully get better as she runs in. Driving to Sydney today so should have a better idea on highway k's usage

Can you give us a review of how this unit performs. Can you load and run Ozi CE and topo maps on the SD card?

Did you fit it yourself? If so did the ISO cable supplied fit OK, or did you need to get another "Nissan" adapted cable, if so where from and part no. would be helpful.

Cheer Tim, Yep running OziExplorer on it now. The supplied SD card is 4gb and IGo8 is about 500mb so heaps of room to put maps on. I have all the Hema 250k maps and all NSW 25k topos on it and still have room left. As it uses the SIRFatlasV chip its very quick at start-up. The iGo8 navigation software is one of the better ones I have used. It's absolutely brilliant .

The sound is very crisp even with the sh1ty Patrol speakers. The best part is the screen and videos...bloody nice!! User-friendliness is much better as my old one so very easy to use. USB is easy as, you just plug in a stick and it automaticly switched over, same with songs on SD card. I would recommend it to anyone.

Took about 10 minutes to install but you will need an ISO adaptor and I found the Holden Rodeo or Mitsubishi Triton (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Holden-Rodeo-ISO-WIRING-HARNESS-stereo-plug-connector-/260824862851?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cba5f9083#ht_3544wt_1110) fit mine. These will depend on which model Patrol you have as they changed depending which stereo unit was installed. $14.95 from Repco, they have heaps of different ones. I think autoban sell them as well.

The only issue I had with install I found the constant 12v and switched 12V where wrong way around, so it wasn't holding its channel memory and would do a long start-up every time. 5 min fix.

If you do get one and need a hand, just yell out mate and we'll have it sorted no time.

TimE
5th March 2012, 05:24 PM
Thanks for that Kris.

I'm in the "just looking" mode at the moment. For the past couple of years I have been using a windscreen mounted "no name" GPS from Chinavasion (http://www.chinavasion.com/product_info.php/pName/5-inch-hd-touch-screen-gps-navigator-direct-win-ce-access/) running IGO8 and OziCE, (with a 4gb SD micro card) the screen at 5" is getting a bit small for my poor old eyes now! Also keen to be able to run the music through a USB connection, changing CDs are just too much trouble in the bush.

Snorkel configurations are interesting. I like your short version, mine fits along the wheel arch and looks chunky but finishes flush with the roof line whereas yours is higher than the roofline and I see issues with low flying pelicans snapping it off. But probably not if you have a roofrack...

Yeah, mighty close mate, probably have about 120mm spare so my roof racks have to go on outside. Funny thing though, my last GU was 2" lift and I was able to drive in/out with the roof bars on. Now with the TJM 2" I can't. It looks closer to 3-4" lift. I hope it settles a lot more!!!!

Looking good there Kris. They just don't make sheds as they should!! We just fit in ours but put the roof top tent on and the Troll has to live outside!

We don't fit in any shopping centre car parks any more either. Made that mistake once!

Loveday will be a great for you to test her out. Hope to see lots of pics.

Would have been funny if you put the roof bars on in the shed then couldn't get the Troll out!! hahaha - NOT!!

I took one for a test drive today and love it!

Does anyone have any more news on the possibilty of lift / bigger tyres affecting the Stability Control?

I really want to get one but need to know i can safely lift it and put bigger tyres.

Yes, they are very nice to drive.

Personally I haven't noticed any issues with Stability Control and 2" lift. Not sure how it would affect higher lift though.
I've tried to engage VDC but I must be soft as I haven't managed to do it yet. Maybe it will be easier on dirt...lol

Also F40, jump into the introduction section ans say G'day and tell us about yourself.

The plan is to have it ready for the next boys weekend trout fishing. we're heading up to the Blue Mountains late April so I hope it's ready in time. The Nissan dealer said the car will be with delivered to them next week but it needs to spend a couple of days at ARB getting some bits and pieces added. Apparently they are booked out for 4 weeks! business must be good in the 4wd accessories industry...

you've probably already seen this but it impressed me.

Mate, sorry for late reply . The snorkel is a Safari, I don't like the airtek ones at all. The stereo is heaps better then my old one, lots more user friendly but one thing...I can't get into windows explorer :( . I only tried once so need to have another go at it. Other wise great unit for the price.

Well I bought one Kris, hopefully it should be here in a week or so. I'll give you a holler if I need any help or advice. Cheers

Well the multimedia unit turned up this morning and is now installed and working fine. Things don't usually go that smoothly for me :)

I own a GU IV built in 2005. The adapters I bought from Repco were Double diverysity lead Aerpro AP 348A ($12.99) to convert the Nissan aerial lead to "normal" male aerial plug and an ISO adapter APP0120 ($14.99).

As you mentioned the 12v wire for ignition volts and memory volts where a about t. The ISO adapter had one plug with the power leads fitted with bullet connectors, I simply swapped the yellow and red leads at the bullet connectors and all is now well, no memory loss (stations and other settings). Pity it isn't that simple to restore my own memory:(

I have OziCE up and running, my reverse camera attached via the Aux video in cable, and the DVD "off except with hand brake on" disabled by earthing that wire to the body of the unit.

Thanks for your advice.

Wow that looks tidy Kris! I have a Long Ranger and it sits down lower than that by quite a bit! Is that the Nissan Towbar in the pic? If it is then your BD tank is at Least 3" higher than my Long Ranger!!!!! For that Alone its a better tank!

It looks about the same height at the diff though? Hmmmm that depends on the lift though hey. I will take a couple of pics of mine mate and post them here for your interest.

Cheers mate, The bar is a Hayman Reese bar.

I'm pretty happy with how it sits, I would expect the LR tank be similar.....

@ MR i will get a pic of my long ranger as it sits the same as Kris's tank and its a 148ltr as well ! BTW Kris coming along nicely mate.

That's interesting! I got my second hand and it came out of a GQ. That is very interesting!! If the GU one sits higher then fitting a GU LRA tank to a GQ with a Body Lift could see it sitting higher too! Hmmmmm? Cool! Post some pics please for sure! We might even go back to Kris's other thread about LRA v BD and post some pics to that thread

Mate probably a stupid question but how many different sensors does that unit read straight from the car?

Mate probably a stupid question but how many different sensors does that unit read straight from the car?

It should read any sensor in the vehicle and you can get an optional attachment for EGT temps.. but if I had my time again I would probably go with a Scangauge.
I explained some issues in this thread ...I'll try and find it for you so I don't have to retype..LOL

Here:

I got the watchdog on Amazon for I think $204 but looks like they have gone up a little. http://www.amazon.com/Bully-Dog-40402-Economy-Monitor/dp/B001P20QD8/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1351714434&sr=8-9&keywords=watch+dog

it is a good unit except when you have it set to metric units the boost is displayed in KPA which is a pain but you learn the reading pretty quick so no biggie.
Also the wiring needs 12v not like the scangauge.

Cheers

Warwick89
26th December 2013, 01:07 PM
So other then the KPA readings there is no big downside?

Not all a mate, it actually teaches you to drive to obtain maximum fuel efficiency through throttle control and braking...its pretty good

Warwick89

Sorry for all the questions but if that's the case why would you go a scangauge?

No problems mate but it's because Im lazy and my brain is too slow too convert boost pressures from KPA to PSI and wiring an extra 12v to the unit was a pain...LOL

BTW the unit will work without ACC 12v, but it will stay on constantly

Yey Mitch, no its an aftermarket unit from eonon which is OK but nothing special. I don't think you can get oziexplorer onto the Nissan ones unfortunately. BTW, these things are only $300 and come with navigation and you can run ozi on it..LOL

gnarly build thread mate! rear bar work looks awesome.

thats repulsive only getting 30,000 outa your clutch. i am currently dealing with the folks at nissan because they put a cheap dmf in instead of genuine. i didnt have to pay for labour though as it was under warranty so only paying parts. with a bill for 4600 id be straight onto the single. i will be going single next time when the car is older as i didnt want the rough driving.

with your single install can you feel the low rev shudder/vibration? whats brand u go with?

cheers mate

I can get it now if I wanted to for $400

+ $450 Per Swing Away choice of Tyre Carrier or Double Jerry Can Holder
+ $400 Self Opening Feature, this can only be applied on the main barn door
+ $149.95 Aurora 5w LED Flood Reverse Light with Self Adjusting Light Pole

Ordered a new adjustable draglink to get my steering wheel straight, it's solid 38mm chrome moly 4140 .

so I now have new panhard, damper, tie rod and draglink- thanks to a little mishap not long ago..lol

I also found the problem(actually two) with the front air locker, the bloody 60a relay was shot which I now replaced and now have a small wire open circuit from the switch to the relay as well. Sort that out tomorrow :)

Once I clean it after next weekend it's off to Mr Nissan to get the right hub sorted

Better than the poxy cheese cutters you get from factory. Atleast it had on road grip with those on. The original ones were just dangerous. Plus when its a work car and was all stickered up it looked the part. Bro.

The price reflects the current market value of these cars with low k's.
I'm not even adjusting for the accessories which is a shame but that is life.
