I have come to the fact I will not find manual hubs for the GQ anytime soon. All I can find thus far as a replacment is a AVM brand. It seems to be the opion of most that they are &^%$.

SO... Can anyone tell me what would be the best aftermarklet hubs and why? I have no idea on the subject but have just taken ownership of a TJM Air locker.

Cheers in advance

Interesting question Ryan.

Perhaps a FWH that lets go before a CV is not such a bad thing, if the FWH is cheaper and easier to replace?

Go AVM - you don't go that hard at it (yet!!), so,just get two sets?? They're cheap and as per Silver's comment, easy to replace especially in the middle of nowhere (so long as you have an 8mm socket attachment for the Allen bolts).

X2, I have opted for the high performance AVM. They are a stronger option.

Why are you going manual hubs anyway Ryan??????, just turn your auto ones 2 manual.

dont forget avm hub's warrenty dosnt cover locked diffs. Hub usually break when driving in a straight line, cv's break when turning. Smooth throttle responce and driving style will rarely break parts unless you are in a sticky stiuation

I have actually never heard of someone breaking an Auto Hub, yes the internals for the auto lock mechanism, but not the hubs themselves.

I can't see why they would not be just as strong as the manuals. I'm sure someone like YNOT would be able 2 set me straigth.

Where are you Tony?

Yep, i converted my autos to work as manuals after fitting a Lokka, when in the lock position they are just as strong as a manual hub, people often break auto hubs when set on "auto" because they dont use them correctly !

I'd have to agree with you Todd, I've never heard first hand of anyone breaking a Nissan hub, manual or auto hubs. I've read reports of the Nissan auto hubs not being quite as strong as the manuals but I've never seen any evidence to back up the claims.

I have seen GQ CV's break like twigs, reversing up hill with a locker engaged with the steering slightly off centre.

Thanks Steve and Tony.

Strip your Auto's apart and convert them 2 manual Ryan, if your that worried about them breaking can always buy an an after market hub as a spare.

Never remember seeing or hearing of cracking through the bolt holes or exploding but am under the impression the most common failure is the cir-clip / pins ( what ever there called ) that I'm pointing 2 in the pic breaks.
