Not sure about the Safari, expect it is the same as the Mav. Look above the aircon vents - you'll see some screws that need to be removed. I have yet to drop one into the aircon ducting, but it has to happen some day - maybe use a strongly magnetic screwdriver if feeling unlucky!
Pull the ash tray forward and up to remove same. More screws will be visible.
Look on either side of that central part of the dash, kind of in the foot well - two screws on either side - out they go :-)
Then you should be able to ease that central part of the dash forward, and hopefully see how to access the back of the heater control panel - I've not removed that part.

Thanks, I will have a go at that. See how many parts I have left over after!

Hey jdug. I had the same issue with my Safari. By heater control lights I assume you mean the climate control back lights? I tried to source replacement lights for these and they were $$$ from Nissan and couldn't find at other auto places. I ended up soldering in LEDs instead. Easy job if you have some elec knowledge. I posted details on it in the DIY thread.
Good luck.

By heater control lights I assume you mean the climate control back lights? Climate control?? Do the Safari's have a different setup to the Patrol's?

for cheap lights you could try Brightlight auto parts. I know they sell led replacement bulbs and I have bought other led spotlights and interior lights from them and have been happy. They also sell on ebay at times cheaper than their regular site.

Hey patrol_maverick. Can't speak for all of them but my 95 Safari (Type II) has very similar to but slightly different interior fittings to the Patrol Ti. Climate control aircon with temp sensors on the dash. Works well too!
