Mocked up with black tape, another Wacky MB concept [emoji2957][emoji23]

Not sure if I love it or hate it yet [emoji848]
Keen for your honest helpful thoughts prior to welding Team NP.com.au?

Certainly will keep I believe our pesky local Hills bugs from ram feeding into the airbox, open passenger side window for a Navi would be a lot more bearable too I imagine [emoji1696]

https://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2024/05/13.jpg

The 30 degree downwards, slightly twisted final bend theory is for parked up outside/overnight camping torrential rains protection.

Have had previous plastic family GU wagon truckster ram head snorkels fill airboxes overnight and believe poor Rossco ‘s GQ once did the same nearly hydro-locking his beast on morning startup [emoji51]

EDIT: Besides looking a little kooky, not powder coated yet [emoji23] Could the extra nearly say 800mm of 4” pipe potentially hinder its air intake? I’m only chasing 150rwkw again [emoji1696]

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I’d say no bro. That 30 degree turndown lowers the intake height and if you get water coming over your window height you might be in big trouble.

Extend it up vertically at least 2 metres to be safe I reckon.

That way he will be able to not just cross rivers but also to cross deep lakes.

I would for sure.

I struggle on freeways, the Simmo trip will not be fun for me @ 110kmh

What does yours do at 100kph?

I think if he's got water up that high he's in the poo regardless.

I have a nice looking 6inch chrome air ram here at work he could fit aswell.

Cheers Legend’s, you’re all as wacky as I am [emoji736][emoji736][emoji23]

Struggling to locate my old school metal G welding clamps, spoiled myself on the way home and bought some long wanted C Visey grips:

https://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2024/05/17.jpg

I’m far from a steel fabricator but this wacky method of mocking up pipe work with tape then tack welding through small tape cut holes N/S/E/W might actually work [emoji1696][emoji23]

All good. I found a s/h box from a 2008 low 100thou on the clock box. George will be doing the r & r for me. Now I'm thinking do I get the Mark 10% overdrive reduction gear now, since I have saved over 2K. This would bring my revs at 100kph from 2450 to 2205rpm.

Hmmm.Yeah do it, have the taller 5th in mine running 4.6s with 35s and 43% reduction gears and very happy with the overall gearing in the old girl. .

Started and completed a pivot bracket for the Codan HF. Allows transport position at 30 deg tilt so it does not get clobbered from trees and branches, then undo 3 bolts and stand it upright with the antenna sections. Required a complicated 40mm RHS frame built and 6mm plate to anchor it to the POD frame and all clamped up with a greased turn plate, happy with the results, just needs the 3 tapped holes at 30 deg to complete.880258802488023

Loving the strip lights I got from a forum vendor, Ledlightcompany.com.au. They are so bright and draw nothing, has the added feature of white and yellow, white only or yellow only. Highly recommend them. Talk to Paul, great guy.

Not my patrol, not even a Nissan.

Helped my son install a 2" lift in his Colorado today. Was good spinning spanners, talking shit and having a couple old beverages with him..

Bit more progress, chest infection, again, holding me back, but baby steps get the job done. Finished the pivot mount for the big antenna, then trial fitted the new TRED boxes, ordered another 65L unit, plenty of flexibility, have the rear seat frame platform mod in reserve as well.

Yes I hold an amateur operator licence, but dont spend time on the service, its more for peace of mind contact if I ever need to get out of a jam. The HF service this radio works on has maybe a 3000klm range and is restricted in frequencies like the HAM frequencies.

Goona be a few ham frequencies on that Simmo trip I reckon.
Sorry to hear you couldn't make that trip Phil, a real bummer.

After speaking with George I won't be doing it. As it stands, my fuel economy doesn't change if Im towing or not. George pointed this out, it seems my rev range must be right in the sweet spot.
I was concerned if I did the mod. I would be too low in the RPM, albeit only 200rpm lower. But I still can do it later if I wish.

Hahaha forgot about this, I haven’t been able to get on roads for 110 but I did a naughty local 100kmh and it was 2400.

It’s up there at 110. I’ll get alternator sorted this weekend and take it for a run.

More or less finished the POD electrics today, debating whether I stick with the breaker panel or just run have short extension leads instead to the other side of the POD - bit extravagant with the separate panel I think.

Sorted out the lack of charge today, was missing a common earth, now rear batteries are charging, via the BCDC, solar and direct off alternator. Painted the sliders on the underside, taking two days to dry with the cold weather. With luck will get it out for a squirt down the highway before going back to the mine for a month straight - not looking forward to that.

Thanks Stropp, spent another big day on the barge, stuffing around and doing things once properly, 240V system now installed, double Makita 18V battery charger installed, on board Victron 240V charger installed, fitted the remaining pod anchors today, sorted out the coolant leak which was a loose clamp, need to sort out one more POD rear wall penetration, and fit a fuel isolation valve, then it will be on the final run. I have a number of hydraulic hoses under the car for the winches and they really need some robust supports. Off to the mine again for a month this time, so will address when I get back. Simply ran out of time today, and the temps plummet after about 5pm, so headed inside for a beer.
