Hey Ive been offered a set of TD42 extractors and am wondering if its worth doing or not. Will they help with fuel economy and power or not? The truck has a standard exaust system and a snorkel.
Any advise is much appreciated.

Sorry this one was missed mate - generally speaking going the extractors over standard is highly desirable in getting exhaust gases out of the engine quicker (depending on exhaust size though) which allows the truck to breath a bit easier (as it were).

I have a petrol, so I'm assuming the benefits are the same in principal - not sure you'll see any noticeable power improvement, but overall performance and economy may increase to a noticeable level though.

Others on here will have a better idea than me mate, so hopefully some other replies to come will assist also/better.

Yep go for it.
the more dirty gasses you can get rid of, the cleaner the next breath of air and the better the burn.
clean air = more oxygen can enter chamber to burn fuel.
It does pay to wrap em in fibre glass cloth tape before you fit em. ba#%@#* of a job on the car.
This aids in keeping under bonnet temps down and noise levels are also noticeably silenced.
Tip- wet tape first in bucket of water to soak it, less glass splinters to get in your skin, and do this job somewhere you can clean up later easily.
some people use those CV boot ties, but also say 60lb soft stainless steel fishing leader wire does a very nice job mine look fantastic neat and tidy, s/s wire around $12 for 10m.
Its very easy to wrap wire around twice and pull up tight and twist off out of sight and nearly bury the twist inside tape makes it almost invisible.
Also there are claims the ceramic impregnated glass tape is carcinogenic.
the black and grey tape is supposed to be graphite impregnated might be messy on you hands or every time you rub it may come off on you.
Its a fairly easy job, slow-ish, done correctly very-very worth while.

Wrap it good and tight and it may tighten further when drying.

Should of mentioned when you first fire up after wrapping with wet cloth it will give off plenty of steam and smell abit, this is usually organic compounds in tape burning off and normal, but I would not be breathing this in to be safe.fire up out in the open alot of steam does comes off.
some people reckon tape makes pipes to hot, jury out I think wives tale.
no probs after 4 yrs on my car.
There is a slight gain to be had in insulating pipes." in theory ".
Hot air/exhaust is thinner/lighter than cold air so it easier for it to be exhausted .
Less dense so flows better.
The gain may only be slight but it's a gain none the less.

If you want a good new set these are the ones I purchased from a guy in Bentleigh for $290 on eBay.
Proper mandrel bent, 1.6mm tube, free delivery, the only change I made was to add a flange so it was bolt up with a gasket instead of a slipper fit and clamp.

I didn't notice a difference in power with extractors, but noticed quite a considerable increase in economy.
2.5" exhaust was the opposite, didn't notice a difference in economy but helped a lot with the power.

I put some on and instantly noticed extra power down low.Much quicker pickup at low revs but soon dissapears. And deff better fuel econ.
Yeah i'd say go for it too!!
