Hi all,
I wanted to replace the brake and clutch fluid. In the shops I can only find DOT4.
Is it OK to replace the DOT3 by the DOT4? What about the clutch?

Dot 4 is ok to use in both brake and clutch the spec`s of dot 4 are just an improvement over dot 3.

Hey there Smile, I had an issue last week while touring, looked under the hood and no fluid in the clutch at all...well just a little, rang my mechanic who lives and breaths 4wds and he said not to worry about DOT3 or DOT4, just to use anything I can get and it would be fine, hope this helps, Dan.

I use Castrol Hi temp. Its expensive compared to regular brake & clutch fluid but given the close proximity the clutch slave is to the secondary pipe & the work we put these big old girls through I thinks its a wise investment.

toyotas seem to be the only ones that recommend dot 3 only. ive heard of people putting dot 4 in the brake master and it swells the seals inside. ended up costing them 4 grand to replace it as the abs unit is incorporated in it (100 series landcruiser)
