Hi all

Happened to stumble across this forum whilst researching patrol's.

Have had a 4.2 GUII in past, made the mistake of selling her :(

Getting rid of my current ride (Mazda BT50) soon and will be replaced with another Patrol.

Would love another 4.2 but realistically will have to go for a brand new CRD. Creating a list of goodies to get with it from new. Would love to put a 4.2 into it one day :) (i know it can't happen)

Anyhow, look forward to reading some interesting posts.

Long live the mighty patrol

Thank you all for the welcoming.

I'm currently doing a lot of research on kitting out a new patrol. Why can't I get a 4.2 brand new! :( (don't answer that, I already know).

Thank you all for the welcoming

I couldn't believe my experience yesterday at local nissan dealer.

Went in to specifically test drive a new ST wagon in manual as I have only tested the auto so far. Was told none in stock, no idea of when or if there would be stock (to drive), maybe go to dealer in another town, test drive there's, and be sure to come back locally for pricing and to do the deal!!!!!!!!!

WTF, why would I??????

Ohhh well.

Looks like it will be a little harder than I thought to get back into a Patrol.

Rant over :)

Ditto buddy, can't supply one to test drive so why bother going back to line their pockets. So how was the auto anyway???

I was very pleasantly surprised. I had previously owned a 4.2TD GU with a few mods (3", fuelled up, etc), recently tested a standard 4.2TDi, have driven a 03 GU 3L auto.

The CRD auto I thought was a lot more responsive than the old 3L auto (I imagine the boost comes on a lot earlier now). Pulls well up to about 90km/h that I got it up to. It has similar power and response to the majority of the 3L common rails on the market these days (I currently have BT50 and drive hilux's at work, very similar). Big improvement from the old I think.

Interesting to note in the brochure how much torque you loose in the auto from the manual. Now I know auto's create torque from the slipping of the torque converter. Manual is 380Nm@2000-2400, auto is 354Nm@2000. Also power figures change rpms too, manual 118kW@3200-3400 and auto is 118kW@3600.

The only other variation I noted is the gear ratios between auto and manual. 1st in man is 4.556, 2nd in man is 2.625. Auto is 1st 2.784, 2nd 1.544 (Note: auto is 3spd with overdrive 4th, manual is 4spd with overdrive 5th).

Looking forward to the test drive in manual to see how 1st and 2nd gears feel/behave.

Still, if I had a choice it would be 4.2 hands down. Love that engine.

I'm trying to get my head around the dash board. Not a huge fan of the shape and the glovebox seems very small. (cant remember thinking that way of the older GU)

Hi, I'm also a new member..looking to buy a Patrol. My BT50 broke it's back (was fitted with airbag susp), now looking a real 4WD preferrably a 4.2
Whats the story with the 3L these days? Have they ironed out the engine problems or are they still time bombs?:):)
