i have this squeeling / whining noise inside the cab (can't hear it outside cab). Usually starts being noisy once warmed up.Starts quietly, and then i can easily hear it over the whine of the 33's and the 2.5 exhaust.
Now i have been told it is more than likely the speedo cable.
Has anyone elso come across this?
Can it be fixed, or does it need to be replaced?
any help appreciated here guys. this is very annoying :(
cheers

Its not likely to be a speedo cable as such mate as the Patrol speedos are electric not mechanical.

X 2 ... definitely won't be the Speedo cable
If it is totally speed dependant and doesn't change with engine load, RPM etc then I would be suspecting something to do with the output shaft or maybe front uni or something

after 5 minutes or so running from cold, it will start. It will whine 90% of the time. stop for a tad, then kick in again.
Seems to happen louder as my speed increases
A mechanic near me ( i won't name) says it is the speedo cable. The replies above have shot that down.
My problem now is, if i knew what it was, i could have a go at fixing, but finding said problem is the hard part right now :(

Sorry O22, was trying to make a funny :-(
must be pretty loud to compete with tyres and exhaust. And only audible inside the cab................. what happens if you take the fu2e out of the line that supplies the sound system? Clutching at straws, really......

Was thinking the very same as Silver here.
Does it happen when stationery, in gear out of gear (you running auto or manual?) or only when driving?
Im forever hunting down new noises as they crop up so I don't envy your task.

hi again
only when driving, louder at higher speeds. When it does stop briefly, it is usually at a set of lights.
Manual gearbox.4.2 petrol dual fuel. Gears seem fine, clutch and thrust bearring replaced this week. The noise from bearring was louder and drowned it out.
Hearing isn't the best, but it sounds like it from behind dash / firewall (this is a guess)

Apply some wheel chocks, climb underneath & unplug your speedo drive & then take it for a little drive & see if it stops. This will at least rule out your speedo head itself.

Possible exhaust manifold leak?
Does the noise increase when stopped and the engine revs are increased? or does it only increase with road speed?
Also check the boot around the gearstick has been fitted correctly and is not damaged.

new pacemakers / 2.5 exhaust. Noise was there previous.
noise gets quieter when slowing down / stopped. rediculously annoying at 100 km/hr

Does it do it when running on either petrol or gas or does it do it on both?
Could be a leak in the air intake somewhere making the noise, loose manifold or gas thingy where carby goes.
Split hose on the gas system or some other vacuum line ruptured?
Just guessing here, bit hard without hearing it.
Does it sound mechanical or too hard to tell?
Hope you find it soon.

gas and petrol noise happens.
Similar noise to the thrust bearring whine, not quite as loud.
I might run her round the streets for a bit, get her warm. Sit it in driveway with choke on and see if i can get to the sound that way.
out of ideas :(
