Hello again tell me this guys: I bought a patrol GQ 1992 LWB but I am using a SD33 N/A in it with the original SD33 k160 5 speed engine because its what I can afford right now until I can somehow buy a original TD42 or converted to a V8 engine, to cut the story short here what I am asking. The 4WD on the GQ front diff is automatic by selecting the gear from the transfer and sending the power to the front wheels right ???.......because I seem to select the 4WD gear but nothing seems to happen and what I mean by that is that I have the truck jacked up on stands and I try to turn the wheels manually forth and back and nothing seems to lock up, I can also grab the front shaft and turn it freely without any efforts. So my question is this: 1. Does that happens because the truck is standing steel and I am trying to turn the wheels by hand or 2. Is it because I am using a different transmission than the original or 3. because I am not selecting the right gear or I am totally without Front wheel drive. My point is that I CANT UNDERSTAND exactly how does the automatic front 4WD system works.
HELP PLEASE.

The reference to jacks may be confusing the issue but... If you have the transfer case in 4H or 4L then you should not be able to turn the front input shaft by hand if the truck is on the ground.
If it is on jacks front and rear and also in gear with transfer in 4H or 4L, same thing.
If it is on jacks front and rear and in neutral with transfer in 4H or 4L then turning the front input shaft should turn both front and rear axles.
If it is on jacks and you do not have a locker engaged in the front diff then it is an open diff and you will still be able to turn a wheel even with 4H or 4L selected in the transfer case.
Does that help?

No worries Cobber...
Just remember that "four wheel drive" is a bit of a misnomer really. Well without lockers/LSD/welded diffs it is anyway.
Technically it should really be "One of the front wheels with the least traction and one of the back wheels with the least traction drive" but noone could make a badge that said it that was small enough to fit on a truck :icon_bonk:
