Was just reading about belz eating frogs legs n snails, and i thought strewth thats a bit harsh, then remembered some of the weird things ive consumed. The weirderst was probably squirrel soup in Thailand with a local fella. I asked him if it was rat or squirrel he says one with fluffy tail, look see the head that squirrel. I dunno but i ate it anyway, then we ate fish faces hahahahaha yummo

I've eaten (an forgive the spelling):
Witchity grubs
Frogs Legs
Brains of various types (faggots in England was pretty good - brains in intestine lining, like a 'sausage meatball' thingy)
Black pudding (pigs blood and fat)
Snails
Lime ants (in North Queensland - well, you don't actually eat them as such, if you lick their back it tastes like lime - used in bush cooking though)
Tripe (yummy - sheep intestine/stomach)
Haggis (variation of tripe above - in Scotland - stuffed with herbs and other assorted goodies!)
Love cooked prawn heads
Eyeballs (sheep, lamb and fish I think!! lol - the sheep ones were a bet I did in Ireland)
Pickled eggs (not a fan of anything pickled!)
Hmmmmm ...
That's about it for somewhat weird food ...

Oysters picked live off the mangroves, cracked open with a screwdriver and straight into the gob. Anyone who says there's a more disgusting food is just plain wrong! My throat contracted and refused to let me swallow!
Your kidding me????............ Man I woulda loved to have been there......Oysters that fresh...... Yuuuuuuuuuumy

That was 15 years ago now and only this year I ate my first raw oyster since then. Had to have lemon juice on it though and yeah OK it wasn't bad! But they're still slimy blobs of sea goop!
I'm with you - I chew them, and I enjoy the first two, but after 2, that funny 'off' taste materialises - for all I know it is entirely in my head. But I stop then because Loverly Wife loves 'em.

I read years ago a quote that said 'It was a brave man who first ate frogs' legs.' I doubt it. He was probably just hungry.
People who are now in the 50s and 60s who are children of European migrants have pointed to a lot of our 'weeds' and explained how important those plants were as food to their parents. I suppose that's how the plants arrived here.
As our 'civilisation' has progressed, we eat from an ever more narrow menu of foods.

Rat Meat is surprisingly good - my favourite in fact.
Followed closely by dog meat, just something different about it.
Witchety grubs can taste great or like dirt, depending on who cooks them and how.

Was at a party a few weeks ago, and there was about 5 seats for around 30 people. Me and a mate had a seat each, and we weren't gonna get up for anything. There was this HUGE moth flying around annoying everyone and I somehow caught it. Didn't wanna get off my seat to throw it outside, so without thinking... put it in my mouth.

Geez I remember hen Sweet bread, Brains, Shanks were normal cheap delicouscy snacks whn I was younger, Mushrooms fresh from cow paddocks under the dung. Remember eating fresh hunted rabbits baked in Auntys'oven. And how about Mutton that used to be available at the butcher. Sago for pudding.
Have eaten eel, rock cod, catfish from localish waters. Have had Camel, and Roo. Used to have Pet Ducks and loved their fresh eggs for dinner.
Have eaten watercress from a creek near Wolfedene years ago and have had Pouha(I think that's how it's spelt).
And worst of all Liver baked in water only, no sauce spice etc.

Goat curry - Malaysia and East Timor (we ate the camp goat)
Wild boar - Bangkok
Snake - Vietnam
Fried crickets - Bangkok
River eel (raw, fried and boiled) - Japan
Silk worms or cicadas (not sure - lost in translation) - China
http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/ee518/fieldfrenzy/cicadas.jpg
Chicken liver soup - China
Takoyaki (octopus in flour ball) - Tokyo
Sizzling cow intestines - Tokyo
Skewered beef stomach - Tokyo
Sea urchin - Tokyo
Abalone - Tokyo
Salmon eggs - Tokyo
Moray eel - Tokyo
Some kind of seaweed - Tokyo
Most of it, I'd eat again. Wasn't too fussed on the Takoyaki even though I like squid/octopus.

Chevon (goat meat) was pretty normal for us, we raised our own. Not keen on chops - to chewy, but roast joints were good. Don't eat red meat any more though.
Have eaten turtle a couple of times. Once in Vanuatu & again in the Kimberley. Similar to beef.
Wild honey dug out from paperbark trees (complete with bits of wood in it) - yum. In the Kimberley.
Drank Kava in the jungles of Vanuatu, pre-chewed in the traditional way by pre-pubescent boy's from the tribe. Over did it and was sick or 48 hours - both ends!
