will they ever bring back the 4.2TD

is there any chance of nissan bringing back the 4.2TD, my understanding is that it disapreaed due to emmissions regulations, surely they could find another way around that, do nissan make a 4.2TD for other markets?

Somebody once told me they use them in Nissan forklifts but that's gotta be wrong surely.

I did hear the same thing Plassy but was skeptical of the statement as well.

I'd be floored if Mr Nissan re-released the TD42TI, even in a 45 or 48, I just can't see it happening but IMO it would be the single best decision they'd made in years & im tipping would see sale go through the roof as well.

i dont think you will see the 4.2 back again because of the emmision issues the next new model is a petrol v8
but it would be nice to have a 4.2 if you could afford them

IFS better for touring. Less unsprung weight gives better ride on rough/corrugated roads. Live axle better for flex only.

I agree, Toyota has run a CRD 4.2 TD for 7 or 8 years and have no trouble selling them. Their latest V8 twin turbo is very sought after. I cant believe that Nissan have not put a new head and fuel system on the TD42 block, cant be that hard Surely!!

Bring it on, Nissan have dropped the ball on this one and allowed Toyota to grab a Dominant Market share beyond their worth.

Seeing that Toyota would be Nissan's main competitor for the Patrol, you would think Nissan would offer engine options to match if not raise the bar and put Toyota on the back foot.
Not comparing vehicles but if Nissan can build a winner every-time they design cars such as each each GT-R model you would hope they aim for the same dominating success for other models such as the Patrol.

I just saw an ad for the new Nissan "Leaf"- a totally electric small hatchback car. No doubt nissan is putting alot of money and r and d into projects like this and therefore neglecting the older models.
But.....I suppose toyocrap are doing the same and still managing to bring out some high power diesels.

Rest in peace 4.2---you will be forever remembered as THE best engine nissan made---thats why they are still patrolling around after all these years!!!!---my old girl has just over 250k on the clock,and she is as quiet as a church mouse---all that has been done is the pump and injectors.It was a sad day when all you can get in an aussie sold patrol is one of those rattly 3 litre things!!!{sorry 3ltr owners}

I would be happy with a v8 turbo diesel patrol, I am wanting to update my 92GQ soon, but want a large diesel engine, really not wanting a 3 litre. am hoping that Nissan give me some options in the next 2 years as after that I may have to consider the unthinkable

This what i found in an article, on goauto.com.au! dan thompson (director of nissan aus) said these comments-


"Mr Thompson said Australia had been the only market to put up its hand for a right-hand drive Patrol, and also had been the only country to request diesel.

He said Nissan did not have a suitable diesel engine in its powertrain line-up, leaving it to try to source one elsewhere.

“It is impossible to say when a diesel would be launched,” he said."

Actually, nissan has been using td42 in their forklifts for ages. when i was rebuilding mine i just got forklift parts as there were heaps cheaper and are silver top stuff.

The new Pathy's and Navara's have the 3.0lt V6 CRD's already. 175kw & 550nm Why cant Nissan adapt them into Patrols? The front mount intercoolers are so massive on the Navara's I heard that ARB gave up trying to design a bull bar for them.

Its simply a money thing and that's it..They are still selling new "superseded" TD42's in some foreign markets not under E5 emission laws or not recognised and new TD42 crate motors are still available ex Japan probably until stock runs out.
Yes it is a money thing, Renault own half of Nissan and already had cheaper "global" options available, I think Mercedes now have a financial interest in Nissan too so the next new diesel for a Patrol may well come out of the Mercedes stable. Which isn't a bad thing, they've made some pretty good deisels over time and have been at it in passenger cars and commercial vehicles for donkeys years.
