Gu 2.8 aircon bearing

Just replaced the noisy bearing on my a/c compressor i decided to leave where it was and see if it could be done as most forum sites recommend to unbolt and bring to top of engine bay its a fairly simple job leaving it mounted just awkward took me about 4hrs all up for anyone who needs the replacement bearing number for this model its 83A694CS30-J it also suits the following models hope this helps (i tried to up load some pics of changing the bearing but uploading kept failing will upload when i can work it out)

went for a drive today and have found since changing the bearing aircon is now on permanantly any ideas where ive gone wrong

When you removed the clutch plate, was there any shims? did they go back in?

I didnt see any when i removed it will look in the box i put all the bits in case they fell out and i missed them

just looked at the manual will be the shim had a washer type thing in the box thought it was left over from another job that i did will replace tomorrow what a dunce

Yes the shim is just a washer that slides over the end of the compressor shaft and sits on the lip on the inside of the clutch plate, so it spaces the clutch plate away from the pulley.

There is normally at least one shim (it depends how much clearance there was when the compressor was manufactured).

If you disconnect the wiring at the compressor does the clutch stay engaged? (engine running).

aircon was working normaly before i changed the bearing just the bearing that was buggerd when i started car after i changed it i just hit the aircon switch and heard it click in ran it for a few minutes to see ifall was ok then just shut it down that was friday today was the first day that i have driven it since fixing it will put the shim in tomorrow 99.9% sure thats the problem

One thing i did notice aircon actually runs coler without the shim in

Yes it will, well at least it will until the evaporator freezes up and then you get little or no air coming out of the vents.

Now ive fixed the aircon problem orderd the o-ring and plate to fix the hot start issue this morning so will see if i can get that wrong over the next couple of days hehehehe
