hello all,
I'm sure Im jumping the gun bt I am seriously considering going to cape york next year. Reading older threds and Hema's cape york book, i would really like to go up late May early june before the roads turn to s*%t and it gets too hot, but I have heard it's a wet season does anyone know or is it too early to tell. Also any other tips on the cape like places to see is greatly appreciated.

Hey Tusman,

Im planning our trip to go up there in 2015.

I have been researching the drive up there and have come accross a few websits that can help you out.

http://www.exploroz.com/TrekNotes/FNQ/Cape_York.aspx

Here is one that will give you local info - mainly tourist stuff but its a start.

http://www.cairns.com.au/visitor-information/destinations/cape-york-&-cooktown-guide.html

Basically between May and October are the ideal times to travel up there. However they are predicting a pretty big wet season up there this year and it might carry on into winter.

Cheers,

Rob

Hi Tusman June is a good time the wet was long this year and we were still getting rain in May, my tip would be Avoid the Bypass rd (boring ans rough) go the telegraph track and try and do the CREB track before the close it forever

Thanks Killametre, No questions asked I'm gonna go the OTL, Would love to go the CREB also but the folks I'm traveling with are towing a BIG trailer, how do you think they would go on the CREB?

Hi all, Plans are still going ahead for the trip to the tip. So far the plan is to go up In the first three weeks of June. So far 2 cars are locked in and another 2 possible's. A ford courier, 2 Hilux's and Trollette to pull them through the rough stuff lol. we are all planing to catch up mid January to start working out the must see's, but so far the OTL is a must by all, CREB, Lakefield and Chilli beach are all looking likely and the rest is up for disscussion. I will continue to keep you updated as news breaks. Tusman

Sounds good, keen to hear more. I've got a mate who is trying to recruit me for a trip in 2013, the drawback is....
It's a 60 series trip, dunno about listening to the pro-Toymota garbage for a whole month! Other than that, I'm keen as to get up there.

Hahaha, I reckon you wouldn't get to see much. You'd be to busy recovering the Yotas..LOL mind you the 60's were not a bad truck..{ok,ok, I'll wash my mouth out}

Unfortunatly the trip to the cape has been cancelled for this year. Due to work commitments I could not get enough time off to make it worthwhile. Also 2 of the other groups that were going to come had pulled out. But on the upside we have just locked in 2 weeks from the 23rd of July when we, and one other car, will be heading up to lake eyre. We are hoping to also take in birdsville, Inamincka and the big desert on our trip but just depends how far we can spread the 2 weeks without having to drive a thousand km's every day.
