Gday all
Matt here, this is my first post but a long time reader of this site!
I'm from West Aus living in Perth. Recently converted from a 92 4runner to a Patrol.
I've been having issues ever since :(

Background.
Nissan Patrol 3L - 2001- 135,000kms

Mods.
EGR Blocked
Daws Valve added.

**ISSUE** PLEASE HELP!
Unfortuantly I think my 3L 2001 Patrol has grenaded (died). I've read the stories on this forum.
I was driving down the freeway (the 10km strip from my house to uni not far) and without any notice my engine made a pop sound and completely turned off. No black smoke, no loss of power before hand.

It is currently sitting at Nissan waiting for the bad news.

What I was wondering is, when the RAC checked the computer system it said the fuel pump may be the issue? I seem to have full compression which leads me to hope it isnt anything worse. I have cranked it over and injected fuel into the line with no signs of life.

Any Ideas would be greatful! I'm currently a student I can't afford a new engine. I know Nissan (in myaree) will be about as much help as my mother.

If the engine is done. Whats my options?? Anyone been through this who lives in Perth and can recommend anyone?

Thanks again
Matt.

Hey mate if you are looking at converting i would stay away from the brunswick diesels all together my old man is on his second engine already in 3 yrs he is going to change to a cummins in his Toyota i know im swearing on this site but the brunswicks everyone needs to know about then i would never go near one

You can always look at putting a TD42t in it that engine will last you for ever i spoke with a guy just the other day and he was saying he has 700,000 kms on his and still going strong, i have a TD42t in my GU such a great engine and i couldnt recommend it enough, not too sure though i think you can just bolt it straight in maybe a conversion plate

If you look on ebay or gum tree i see them for sale on there as a reconditioned item for 6000k onwards minus the injector pump and turbo and also the 3 ltr engines

Hope this has helped

Hi Matt,

Welcome to the forum, sorry to hear about your bad news.

It doesn't sound like a blown engine to me. The usual story goes something like, I was just driving along then all of a sudden it's lacking power, running rough and blowing black smoke.

Hopefully yours has not done an engine and it is something cheap to fix.

There is an ignition relay that plays up which I believe supplies power to the fuel injection pump, it might be something that simple.

Cheers Rodney

Hutchy - Hopefully I won't need to get to that stage looking at new engines ect but cheers for the heads up, I'll keep the post updated when I find out more. Sorry to hear about Brunswick, good to keep in mind for the future you never know who to trust.

Rodney - thanks for the tips. Hopefully it is something simple like that but as I said I did feed fuel directly with no luck. But you never know.

I'll keep an update.
cheers guys

Hi Matt, you should get your truck over to Robson Bros in Bentley, they are the boys mate.
Cheers, the ferret.

Does not sound dead to me either. Yendor is on the money me thinks. My instant thought was the "electronically controlled fuel pump" loosing power ( fuse or relay). My mate had his pump replaced a month ago, cost him $4500. Small town with one mechanic only though. Should be cheaper here if that is what it turns out to be. Lets hope its a fuse eh.

Update*

So far its been over a week and not much has happened. Apparently their senior mechanic could not find the problem at Nissan. They think its either the fuel pump or the injector pump so the car has been sent to a mob in Freo who specialise in this.

Paul - thanks mate good to be on here! I'll post some piccies soon the beast are I are not on talking terms at the moment.

Cheers Matt

*Update*

They thinks it's the fuel pump and have quoted me around $4500 to replace.

Anyone know if this is the going price? I have been quoted around $3700

I'm thinking about telling them to to jog on and getting her towed to united fuel injections for a look.

any ideas would be greatly appreciated
Cheers Matt

If that is what it is $4500 is exactly the price my mate payed. Would be dirty to pay and still have an issue if it was something else. Can't hurt to get another opinion. Whats the tow worth?
