hi trollers, i have fitten finally my dawes & needle valve but max is 12 psi & i have no idea if it is spooling correctly
the needle valve seems to have no affect at all.
i was wondering if they are very sensitive & if you have to wait for a change.
also i seem to adjust the dawes all the way out,, nothing now i have just about all the way closed & only 12 psi on a spike
cruzes well 10 psi constant at 2000rpm but not much more

any ideas.
i have blocked egr

where are you getting your boost readings from?

Haven't got a leak in the intercooler somewhere have ya?

Did you adjust the VNT screw when you blocked your EGR?

Good stuff.

Have you checked or had a check done for leaks?

yes mate
i re adjusted dawes & still only max spike 15 is just about closed now

i can find out & adjust the vnt screw but the worry is the needle valve

could i have plumbed it backwards??

i fell no pressure or change on the needle valve no matter what ido and i have blocked everything on the solenoid valve & using the ir resignator but i did use the vacuum line & to me all the same results

You shouldn't have to adjust the VNT screw now.

I only asked if you did adjust it when you fitted the EGR block, thinking that you might need to adjust it back.

WORTHOS6,

First check that you have good vacuum at the top of the Dawes valve (26 - 30"Hg). If thats good and you're sure you don't have any boost leaks, undo the Dawes valve and stretch the spring about 5-6mm and try again.
I would have thought that the Needle valve wasn't directional, but it seems that some may be. You should see a drop in vacuum when you open the needle valve.

thanks Chaz
mate when i start the car & watch for the fall of the actuator arm on the turbo, the needle valve open or closed makes no diff the armjust goes up & thats it until i turn the car off
just another little thing ??

Opening the needle valve should let some air into the vacuum system to reduce it and drop the arm.

In that case, remove the needle valve and try to blow through it with it open and closed. Perhaps it’s not opening.

hi chaz,
had a slight leak at the t comming off the boost line all redone
checked the neddle valve all good
started the car with the lines off & great vacuum from outlet of valve
i got the gauge to come up a little slower & smoother when stuffing around with the valve & revs but still getting a little to much boost around 11 -12 psi at 2000rpm & only 15 max
i think the main thing is getting the bloody egt gauge going & a little more patient on the valve, i will stretch the dawes spring tomorrow & try again cheers mate

hey WORTHOS6. Did this to my 03. Took a lil stuffing around to get the dawes set right. Be careful though. Mine used to over boost until it warmed up in the cold of morning. Seemed fine in all other respects. Took it out to trade the car and huge difference. Dunno how I ever drove without. Just do it right and keep your figures consevative.

Hi WORTHOS6,

11-12psi at 2000rpm isn’t too bad, particularly if your car is manual. We use 10psi as a very conservative benchmark. Also, 15psi max above 2000rpm is also good and I wouldn’t want to go much higher below 3000rpm, as it may induce limp mode. It sounds like you’re getting there.

hi guys
stretched the dawes valve spring whoa what i difference
got a quick 18 psi settles to 16 quickly
the needle valve is doing something because the actuator did not drop back when i stopped the car
the rig is soooo smooth now
the heatsheild last pain in the a.. bolt is finally off so egt probe goes in tonite( even if it takes me all night haha)
Chazman thanks for all your info mate & for getting back to me so quickly

i shall post some egt temps when done & of course some photos of the mod
i will admit i seems bigger then ben hur when you check out the mod but slow & steady wins the race

thanks again guys
