Experience in forwarder and harvester operations in the pine, bluegum and hardwood forests with all chainsaw tickets.
Satellite dish/system installs (NBN, Vast, Foxtel) until Abbott ceased the NBN. FTA antennas till retail stores/Aldi selling antennas and free apps to tune in amongst way too many people taking on installs saturating the industry bringing it all to a crawl.
So I'm house employed to renovate the kitchen. I bought a second hand solid mountain ash (doors) kitchen in Eltham off Ebay for $500. I'm picking up the timber for making the benchtop from the sawmill in Benalla tomorrow. Next the bathroom!

Its nice to read what other people do - what a good idea! Its gonna take me awhile to get thru the some 300 posts though.
I operate my excavator locally around the Macedon Ranges Vic. Spent too much time on union sites and working on housing developments for one pack of morons after another, so decided get my own machine. Now Im having a bit of a lazy waiting for the rain to stop. (so if u need any earthwork done around ur place - let me know)
I used to convert busses/coaches into motorhomes for about 5 years. Still do the odd one here and there and will prob keep doing the odd one here and there as I really enjoy it.
I also did a bit of demolition, renovation & plastering. I ran an engineering joint for some time, had a backhoe and have mucked around with cars all my life. I cant spell for sh*t so Jodie types alot of this stuff for me, but I make up for it by giving anything a crack - especially if theres a buck in it!
Jodie on the other hand is the brains in this team. Shes been a paramedic for the last 8 years and before that an underpaid Vet nurse for almost 10 years. Shes looking at studying at med school next year. Shes got more certificates and diplomas than I do socks! :)

We re[air a lot of sweeping and floor polishing and grinding equipment and truck mounted carpet cleaning machines and pressure cleaning machinery. All commercial and industrial equipment, not Bunnings stuff. We also build and maintain liquid ring vacuum pumps used for vacuuming passenger trains.
Before that I was a technician for what was then the PMG then Telecom Australia, now Telstra. Was involved in the north west microwave project in WA and the radio comms on the Burrup to Perth gas pipeline.

Wow - took me a while to read through this thread - interesting jobs in here.
Reckon the Building/Construction industry wins for the most patrols owners in a particular category
I'm the same, currently running a company supplying the building industry
Originally a musician by formal qualification, but then followed the family and became the third generation builder in my family (wasn't a good enough muso to make a living out of it lol).
Had enough of building in my own business so now back working for someone else (more time to play with the patrol that way)

Well I'm a Fitter/Turner/Toolmaker, Plant mechanic, but I spent the last 45 years in the building trade doing earthworks commercial and domestic.
Made 15000 bricks for my new house and fully conversent with concrete, tiling, carpentry, engineering and bricklaying.
I invented a product 20 years ago and now spend my complete retirement manufacturing it!!! along with many other products.
I just wish I had gone down this road 45 years ago LOL(lookout ARB)
I think that once you learn a trade, you eventually come back to it if you see an opening.
I also have a fantastic Wife who does all the books and posting.
Well that's my story and I'm stick'n to it.

Left school at 13 - hated it - just wanted to get out there & work , the final straw was when I asked them to show how I'd use algebra in everyday life & they couldn't so I went to work on the family dairy farm , then worked in a quarry & learnt driving trucks in every spare minute of time I had , got my truck licence on my 20th birthday , did local , interstate - general & overnight express , logging , sold my truck & Bought a $750,000 tree trimmer machine , did it for 18mths then went back to trucks . Logging , floats then interstate again . Now back driving log trucks again around Gippsland & Yarra Valley , in between all that I used to do a lot of aluminium polishing on weekends - bullbars , fuel tanks & wheels etc on trucks .

Wow this has been a long thread. 42 pages!
Anyways I'm the State Manager of a battery company here in Brisbane. We sell the usual car and truck batteries, AGM deep cycle and 2v solar batteries plus 12 volt solar panels.
As shocking as it sounds I have been doing this type of work since leaving school. Dad who is a bright spark ran a Marshall battery store from 1971 to 1988 till he started to feel a bit flat.
I have been playing with batteries for 30 years So you could say batteries are in my blood.
People often ask which is a good battery?
The answer is that they are like women or cars. Sometimes you get a good one and sometimes you don't.
Cheers

I work in the Process Control field, managing the Australian division of a South Korean valve automation manufacturer. We are only a small family owned operation in Australia so its a pretty hands on role. We have picked up a few reasonably large jobs recently that have kept us afloat, but in general it's pretty grim out there for the day to day work. I've been doing this for 10 years now, but have had a good variety of jobs throughout my working life. Seismic and Geologic Exploration, Long Distance Truck driver/Farm worker/Storeman and eventually moved into management roles about 16 years ago through a stroke of luck.

I've been a Full-time Firefighter for the past 23 years in Sydney.
As a side line, I've worked as an Event Medic for the past 16 years, first with St John Ambulance, and as a sub-contractor for the past 10 years, covering a range of events including 4WD Challenge Events and Motorcycle & Road Cycling Events on my BMW R1150RT Medic Bike.
My Patrol Cab Chassis has now been setup for Events as well.

What do I do for work...?
Where do I start...first of all congrats to all those lucky enough to snag a long lasting career. Seems to be a thing of the past or I am a false opportunity magnet...lol
Qualified Dogman since 1997.
Qualified Carpenter since 2000.
Head machinist for a joinery mob for a little while...Roof truss installer, Ceiling installer, Forklift, Telehandler and EWP tickets. Working from Heights and Confined training.
Trained Concrete cutter and corer and repairer.
Conreter, Steelfixer, Bricklayer, Paver, Plasterer, Ashfalt layer, Tiler, Steel fabricator, Welder, Turf layer and Gardener.
And anything else that its taken to pay the bills and now a mortgage and feed my family over the last 22 years...
At the moment I work full-time for a Maintenance contractor taking care of Schools, Fuel supply chains, Police force and ADF buildings, Public hospitals and any other building maintenance they can snag
And the next 10 year ain't looking any better...lol
All we can do is our best...a mate once said to me that suicide is just a matter of a person believing they no longer have any other options. He rests in peace now...
Lest we forget...the more you have...the lesser someone else can have...
Regards
Chris

One of our industrial CAD designers unfortunately just gave notice damn it, can’t blame him....50% pay increase in a different type of industry for his future [emoji106]
Back to old school methods for us today, 1:20 scale broomstick play logs and graph paper still works [emoji23][emoji106]

Unfortunately/Fortunately spend too much time Stihl base prepping to ensure Sally & Jimmy don’t slip off that walky natural AS4685 log!

In fairness, it is good inner city training for the real world out here, personally busted a full pair of nuts on a slippery creek crossing ‘natural’ mossy proper round log once too [emoji51]
