hey everyone body, i am new to this site as of tonight but am in dire need of advice or help..

I purchased a 06 3.0L wagon from out whoop whoop, never had issue with the car, drove it home from 3000kms away and it never missed a beat..

i just had a 160,000 km service on the car at a 'highly recommended' 4x4 specialist in brisbane and since ive got the car back i am having some starting issues, sometimes cold and also if i stall it.. It seems like the car is cranking but struggles to actually kick over, the engine is really working hard n the car shakes whilst cranking and it doesn't sound healthy either..

In light of this i took it to nissan and they put it down to a faulty after market fuel filter installed without an o ring.. They replaced the filter and gave me some injector cleaner, sure enough got home and it still had the same issue.. both places have told me that my intercooler is loosing a slight amount of pressure because it has some small leakes in it..

If i spend the money n get a new intercooler should this fix the issue or does someone know something tricky that my two mechanics dont hoping i can steer them in the right direction of a rectified fault..

A slight leak from your intercooler won't be causing your starting issue. Take it back to the specialist who did the service.

Is it a manual or auto ? manual it could be the flywheel shagged ?? just reread your post re stalling surely
a manual . and dodgy flywheels make horrid noises ??

Strange that new genuine Nissan fuel filters don’t come with an O ring any more. It certainly sounds like air in the fuel. There is another O ring up under the fuel filter housing that sometimes gets misplaced or damaged when the filter is replaced. Check that and make sure that the primer pump holds pressure.

Thats exactly what nissan said, but i was ensured that it was pressure tested and that the o rings had been replaced upon the installment of a new filter..

i went through a creek crossing (dont have a snorkle) and it was pretty deep, but not deep enough for water to get into the air box, it was pretty muddy - could this of gotten into somewhere yuck?

A quick check of the air filter will show water and mud if you did swallow some it will be in the airbox and dried on the filter.
Whole thing sounds odd, have you checked battery terminals and connections to the starter motor, odd you say it shakes bad though.
Like its getting fuel then its not, if air can get in the system wont fuel leak out when the engine has stopped?
Keep us posted, Macca

yeah i checked the air box as soon as i did it and it was dry and nothing was in there which was strange because water came through my windows as they were down.. ive checked all terminals and sprayed contact cleaner on them (no issues came up on nissans computer) so all electrical connections must be ok?? i pressumed that fuel would of leaked as well when the engine was off but nothing.. well i spose if no one has had this issue before im just going to have to take it to a mechanic and pay them to find the fault and hopefully make everyone aware of a wierd problem that could occur

When you try to start it, does the engine seem like it is cranking fast enough?, are the strange noises coming from the starter motor?

You may have water and mud inside your starter motor.

I had starting issues with mine not long ago, keep in mind its an 01 model... Turns out the solenoid on the starter motor was faulty. I ended up getting the starter motor refurbished. Car is problem free now. I know its a different model, but may be worth checking out cause i had similar symptoms.\

yeah i pulled the starter motor off and had a look, there was a bit of crap in it but nothing to serious looking, cleaned it up so the copper windings wouldnt corrode. Did a continuity check and ground check on it, didnt wanna do an insulation resistance check on it incase i stuffed something up but it all seemed ok..

BUt 'teleman', how do u check the solenoid and where about is that?

i think the starter motor was the same type from the 01 model right throuh to the 07, memory is a little hazy but could be the same setup.. where abouts did u get it refurbished, was it costly? i found a new one for $495.00, a lot of money if not the problem

Your local auto electrician should be able to test and repair (if needed) your starter motor.
