I am looking at getting a smart phone and ditching the brick!!

I have read lots of reviews and have it down to two but both are the new models and would like to know if anyone has either and what do they think??

HTC Sensation or iPhone 4S with both phones scoring a 4/5

My son has an older HTC and loves it and my daughter has an older iPhone and loves it so they are not much help!!

I want to be able to use TappaTalk so if anyone has any advice I would love to hear it! (I think! haha)

I don't think you will go wrong with any of the 2 phone choices, but I'm very anti apple and would go with HTC :)

go with a htc i am in love with mine lol. i have the htc incredable s it is ausome i have also had the htc desire hd bith the best phones i have ever had. my problem with iphone is that thay are only on 1 brand of phone. where as android is over most brands so there is a bigger marcket so in theory android will grow bigger and better because there should be more demand seeing as if u want a apple u can only get a iphone if u want android u have a wide choice of phones.
u can also choose to have a keyboard with android as some brands have a slide out keyboard if u dont like using the touch screan to type but stay away from motorola i find there battery life is really bad my wife had a milstone 2 or something and in the same area her battery lasted less then a day and with the same usage with a samsung galaxy she can push 2 days sometimes. alos the galaxy 2 looks like it could be prety good aswell

i think android has a bigger market then apple .

I had a HTC Incredible S till couple of weeks ago and it was the best phone I have ever owned. The Androis OS is by far the best around. The phone was tough, I reckon even tougher then the iPhone. You can customise it anyway you want ,no limits. HTC Sense is very cool. Camera and video is brilliant and you wouldn't use a normal camera any more.
The only bug in the phone was the email client could not reply with original text. The option is there but just doesn't work. Android are aware of it so hopefully it will be fixed soon. I will have a new one in a couple of weeks...wooohhhooooo

Now I'm stuck with the over rated crappy iPhone

also the thing that shits me about the iphone is that u cant expand memory with a micro sd card as far as i know. there is a price difrence with the difrence in memery space were in a android u can put what large memery cards of your choice depending on what the phone can take.
also the battry is a part of the iphone so if it has a brain fart and is frozen and wont switch off u might have to wait for the battery to drain so as u can restart it. other brands u can atleast remover the battery strait away.

You are right about the memory as you have to buy either a 16GB, 32GB or a 64GB iPhone up front......(And the cost goes up accordingly! )
But the review did not say anything about the battery problem - Thanks

i only no the batter problem on a few friends iphones its just a pain not being able to do anything about it. not sure on wich moddle it is.
also the iphone 4 was realeased witha big problem where your hand blocked reception and the only way the could solve this is to add a case u would think in testing that this would have come up its almost like there qualty systems faild and that is a big thing in a company like that especialy seeing as it wasnt a first release of the iphone.

You wonder about quality control sometimes!!
I think I read in the review (13 pages!) that the new 4S has fixed the reception problem but what other new ones are there eh??

Here's another tick for the HTC,
HTC actually develops the technology for most phones, ie nokia motorola etc, its only the last couple of years they have decided to bring out their own handsets,
and i have never been into the apple technology either, so there's one against iphone, the only reason i have one is curtousy of the boss.

Good luck

If you like the iPhone then it might be worth waiting till the iPhone5 comes out. I think the 4S is the same phone as the 4 with few extras thrown in...could be wrong.

I'm runing OS5 on my iPhone 4 at the moment and the reception has increased slightly.

Ive owned both, an iphone and an android which i currently use.

I sorely miss my iphone, my opinion is android is completely over rated. The motto "it just works" by apple couldn't be more true.

3 points to consider when buying a smart phone:

1. Hardware reliability. Iphone is the most reliable smart fone in the world, fact.

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2011/10/5.gif

2. Operating System reliability. Apple wins again. Android suffers glitches which makes you "force close" applications/. Doesnt happen on Apple.

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2011/10/37.jpg

And lastly

3. Functionality - This one android wins as it is more open and flexible to customization etc.

This is my opinion only, ive rearched it a fair bit, and as such will be returning to iphone as soon as possible.

You are right Kris, the 4S is only a patch up job of the 4 but I don't think the brick will last for the 5 to come out!! (The screen has a big crack on it but at the moment still works!!)

Would not even take into account the reported malfunction rate

How many Iphone users compared 2 Android Users, compared 2 other smart phones? I would say there is a lot more Android users out there than Iphone users. So of course there reported malfunction rate would be higher.

Hmmmmmmmm I-phone hey!!!!!!................ definitely not for me... no removeable battery, so if it stuffs up, your stuffed..... phone has to be sent away for a fix. Memory is all internal so can't be upgraded or swapped. I'd pick an old Nokia over one of those!!!!! lol

If it was me Snicko, I'd go an HTC..... good tuff phones, android OS is easy as...... had mine for a few months now and had no problems with it at all, and apart from the issue with Tapatalk there's been no problem with software freezing.

Not sure which provider your with but one thing to note with most smart phones (apart from the Blackberry Torch) with the Telstra NextG, they may not give you the coverage you might get with a lesser phone...........

aye you said it................ but saying that I had the same trouble choosing a phone as your going through. Still ended up choosing the HTC over the others though because it was the better phone for me and I get coverage where I need it most........ in the city and semi rural areas. At the end of the day Snicko, it's just down to personal preference................ Go down the the phone shop and try a few of them out. The place I got mine from had working phones which they let you have a play around with, not too many places seem to do that for some reason. You just need to decide on what you actually need the phone for and base your decision on that criteria........... happy hunting

iphone 4 here

Love it! Love it! Love it!

If your coming from a world of old phones then i get the concern over the Freeze up, Welcome to iphone! mine has never frozen, i have never had to take the battery out to reset, used to do that a few time a week on the old Nokia.

I have had my iphone since Dec last year and it has been turned off maybe 3 times since then, every time with a flat battery. It is on 24/7, i am a high end business user and make $1400 worth of calls a month and love it. It has a drop out occasionally but dont they all.

Put a case on it, put a screen protector on it, dont buy either of those things from anywhere but ebay.

The iphone 4s has an upgraded processor that is much faster, an upgraded OS that does a lot more, i will upgrade my OS on my 4 to suit that OS.

The loud speaker will work fine for a hands free and is easy to function.

If your like me and dont have blue tooth in your car then i can HIGHLY Recommend the Blueant Q2 hands free!!! Big Fan. i have owned 6 or 7 normal blueants and they are a throw away after 12 months, this is awesome! I can hear it, no degradation of line quality to me or too my client, crystal clear always, no echo.

Blueant Q2 (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/BlueAnt-Q2-Bluetooth-Headset-HD-Audio-Voice-Recognition-5-Hours-100-Hours-/150665254165?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item2314595515#ht_1174wt_1103)

iphone 4s every day of the week, the Android and the World is still playing catchup and will forever, Apple is soo far ahead of the game the world all buy their product and break it down to figure out how to make a copy.

iphone for me!!!

Love IT!!!

I dropped my Iphone last night and it fell perfectly flat "glass" cover side down and it now has a shattered screen.

very lucky because the LCD is ok, just the glass cover.

All I can recommend is spend the extra money and get a cover for it. These new touchscreens are easy to break. That was one good thing about the old brick Nokias, hard to break!

Well guys.......got my new phone today.

It really came down to coverage.

None of the HTC had rural coverage so it was a no brainer in the end.......the iphone was the best of the rest. Now I just have to work out how to use it!! (Pretty isn't it?? ) hahahaha

Hey Nice one Snicko, your going to love it mate. Welcome to the iside.....lol

Now a word on accessories... dont be fooled, under no circumstances should you buy a screen saver, cover, case, charger, usb, car charger, etc, etc, etc from anywhere but ebay, buy straight out of Hong Kong or china or get ripped off. No Brainer, thats where all the "kiosk" style shops in the arcades get their stock!! Cheap! they mark it up 2000% (not kidding).

Enjoy!

ummmmm, well, yes.............. very nice Snicko lol................ but I guess the main thing is, you were able to find something that was able to give you a bit more coverage and that's the main thing

Lucky not to buy HTC. I had HTC touch cruise (HTC Polaris), but even with buying his problems began. Began to break during the conversation and had to take it to repair. After I returned it breaks WiFi. I searched the net why the WiFi is not working and found that this is due to breakage of the motherboard. There was no fix. Then the Touch screen function broke and the phone did not accept a touch. After a few months break and the Bluetooth. While I was wondering whether I need bluetooth and whether to send it for repair, the speaker broke. When I spoke with someone I could only hear it through the loudspeaker, but this way all people around me can hear the conversation. Since last break, I use the phone only as a GPS.
The phone has weak hardware.
A friend also has HTC, but another model (not remember it), and she complained that the phone has a constant need of repair.

hope you understand - google translation :)

Thanks damianovdd. You have had such bad luck.

I hope my new phone works well for me. There is so much to learn on it.

As we are going to the VIC meetup on the weekend I will have lots of time in the car before we get there to play with it!!

I thought the same thing about the iphone 5 but as this is my first non brick I read that all the accessories for the iphone 4 will fit the iphone 4s so it they be available and cheaper.
The 4s apparently has some of the features that is expected in the 5 so I am happy.
