Here's a few more from previous years.
The first and third photo's were an eerie morning storm. My wife and I were working in the backyard under a mostly clear sky, just some light cloud above. Every few minutes we could here what sounded like a tipper emptying a load of boulders a few kilometers away but it just kept happening. We kept looking at the horizon but there was no sign of a storm, that's when we went inside and checked the BOM radar. HOLY CRAP, you should have seen the line of storms that were coming it was hundreds of Km's long and still intensifying, and moving directly towards us - FAST! By the time we got back outside (with cameras in hand) it had poked up over the horizon looking very menacing. We madly ran around the yard tidying up loose items before it hit. What a cracker storm that was.

Mate..... Im so in on this thread...... I don't think we can top Qld storms (seen them first hand, bloody brilliant) but..... we get some rippers here over the summer so I'll be posting for sure.
I always wanted to be a storm chaser.... Big storms, Twisters, Cyclones, hurricanes... It all just fascinates the hell out of me.
P.s Brilliant pics too BTW.

I love a good storm as long as my cars are under cover and the house doesn't get damaged.
Here in Brisbane we have a group on faceache called "South Brisbane storms". These guys are fanatical storm chasers and get some amazing photo's and video's.
This thread is open to anyone, you don't need to be a fantastic photographer, just point your camera at a storm like I do.
I'm only using a basic point and shoot camera so I rarely get shots of lightning, but we get some awesome cloud formations.

Here is BOM (Bureau of Meteorology) website radar page; http://www.bom.gov.au/weather/radar/
, most of you are already familiar with the BOM radar site but for those that are not just click on the radar closest to where you are.
The radar images show where the rain is falling and the intensity of the rain. If you click on radar loop it will show a series of images so you can see where the rain is moving. If you have a GPS you can find your exact location on the radar.
There is also a "weather warnings" link just above the top left of the radar images, click on that to see if there are any warnings current for your area warnings (they also list fire, ocean and wind warnings), there are warning maps at the bottom of the warning pages. You occasionally see an arrow pointing to a storm with the warning "this is a very dangerous storm", you want to hope these storms are not headed your direction. Keep an eye on the warning pages as they get updated as the weather situation changes.

I followed this up & it did touch down taking out 2 houses & something else out in its path..... No one was hurt thank goodness.
It must have been a fair old size cos it takes a minimum F2 possible F3 to level a house. Anything smaller will course damage but in most cases the house is left standing.

Significant Weather Media Release
IDN38503
Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology
New South Wales
Significant Weather Media Release
Issued at 3:56 pm EDT on Tuesday 28 February 2012.
Flood threat for southern and central NSW and the ACT
The Bureau of Meteorology warned today that heavy rain and thunderstorms pose a
significant flood threat to large parts of the southern half of NSW inlcuding
the ACT.
The Bureau has issued a Severe Weather Warning and Flood Watch for a large part
of central and southern NSW with heavy rain developing today and increasing on
Wednesday and Thursday. The Nepean-Hawkesbury River which provides a border to
western Sydney is included in the Flood Watch and is likely to flood before the
end of the week.
"A major rainfall event is unfolding and we expect flooding to develop in the
coming days," the Bureau's New South Wales Regional Director Mr Barry Hanstrum
said today.
"The heaviest falls are most likely in a band running between Broken Hill to
the south and central coast including Ivanhoe, Forbes, Young, Cowra, Canberra,
Goulburn, Wollongong and Sydney. Some locations could receive falls in excess
of 300mm over the next several days," Mr Hanstrum said.
"This event is perhaps the most significant rainfall event that some of these
areas have seen in decades and records may be broken. I urge people to keep a
close eye on the latest warnings issued by the Bureau," he added.
New South Wales State Emergency Service Commissioner Mr Murray Kear has urged
people in areas affected to prepare now. "People living and working along
rivers and streams in the areas affected by the Flood Watch and warnings should
prepare now. If you live in rural areas lift pumps and relocate livestock and
equipment to higher ground. If isolation is likely stock up now on food, fuel,
medicine and other essential items."
"In urban areas if you are in a flood prone location activate your flood plan
and prepare your property and family. It is particularly important that once
heavy rain begins to fall you and your family stay well clear of floodwater. If
you need help call the NSW SES on 132 500 or 000 if it is a life-threatening
emergency."

With all the rain we have had in the last month or so, I don't think it will take 2 much 4 the bottom of the mountains 2 flood out

Nothing to do with forum sponsorship, but would be great if you did become a sponsor.
I think it depends on which way you go about attaching photo's ( I believe there is 2 ways 2 upload photo's 2 the forum ) and also you will find 99% of the larger images displayed are only links to storage websites like photobucket etc....and not uploaded 2 the forums server

I can't say I have ever seen options for sizes when uploading, but do believe there is a difference between format sizes using the "Insert Image" icon in the quick reply box and using the "Go Advanced" then uploading a photo using the "Attachment" Icon
