well after doing a quick run from Broad Beach to Melbourne. 8K/l, then towing van from Melbourne to Adelaide via Rainbow, 5k/l, and struggling on hills/head winds, looking at fitting a turbo, any recommendations? also will it improve economy? tried sitting on 3000rpms in 4th but temp nearly hitting H , so 2500 rpms/87 kph(gps reading) is about all I could sit on , cooling system works ok tho as soon as revs dropped temp dropped quickly, will a turbo effect cooling system...? cheers bazz Adelaide,

More power = more heat, your cooling system will need to be in top condition before you fit a turbo.
Fuel economy depends on how you drive it. If you like the feeling of the surge of power as the turbo boosts up and carries you effortlessly over the hills you used to crawl over in a lower gear then you will use more fuel. Drive with a bit of restraint and you should see an improvement in economy.

There are lots of turbo kits available for TD42, from second hand genuine Nissan kits to AXT, Safari, ASE just to name a few. Personally I like the ASE kits; http://www.aseturbo.com/NISSAN-PATROL/NISSAN-PATROL-GQ-TURBO-KIT/prod_409.html
which use Garrett roller bearing turbo's.
To get full benefit from the turbo you need to have the fuel system tuned to suit the extra air flow into the engine.

I'm a big fan of the MTQ / DTS System for a water cooled & Oil Cooled system for the TD42. I run this on my GQ and at least 6 or 7 of my mates run this same system on their GQs and 80s.

MTQ also do an upgrade for the Nissan GU turbo system for a power up.

Top Quality, great results. Nation Wide service and backup.
