I'm not very good with these computor thingys, I posted this under intro's as well.
I guess I'll get the hang of it eventually.
Hi all, I don't own a Patrol, however I know a few people who do. Hence my joining the forum. Not sure what area I need to go to, for info or someone elses experiences on the following issue.
A friend of mine has an 03 or 04 3 Litre manual Patrol. It has begun a serious problem where the engine will decide what revs it wants to do when driving and all with no input from the accelerator pedal. I believe it has also lost power. Not sure what other issues it has but this lady friend who owns it is quite worried about the cost to fix it. She lives in Cessnock, and the local Nissan dealer can't fix it. (no surprise there I suppose). Can anyone offer a reliable mechanic or possible solution to this problem. I might add that this apparently happened to her last Patrol as well.

Hi all, thanks for the welcome messages etc. I have just spoken to the owner of the troubled Patrol and it played up on her about 6000kms ago and lasted for about 2 kms. It has done this intermittently 5 or 6 times, only the last time it went for 90kms and come right again as she turned off the M3 towards Cessnock. The engine light comes on when it plays up.
She has had it looked at previously and 2 workshops, (one being Nissan), put it on their diagnostic thingy whatsit and they both said that the fuel pump is showing as having a fault. However it sounds like they couldn't or wouldn't look any further as they had no tools or experienced mechanics. (bit of a worry when a Nissan dealer says it has no tools or staff qualified to fix their own product).
On anther note, if a vehicle displays a fault such as this where the engines revs with no input from the driver when actually being driven, would that not need some serious investigation or recall by the manufacturer. Look what happened to Ford in the US. The car's booked in to be looked at with a 4x4 specialist up the Hunter Valley area next Wednesday. He's the only one who would take a serious look at the problem.
Anyway I will get off my soap box now and sign off.
I hope someone can offer some advice for me to pass on.
Cheers.
