Hi all, I don't own a Patrol, however I know a few people who do. Hence my joining the forum. Not sure what area I need to go to, for info or someone elses experiences on the following issue.
A friend of mine has an 03 or 04 3 Litre manual Patrol. It has begun a serious problem where the engine will decide what revs it wants to do when driving and all with no input from the accelerator pedal. I believe it has also lost power. Not sure what other issues it has but this lady friend who owns it is quite worried about the cost to fix it. She lives in Cessnock, and the local Nissan dealer can't fix it. (no surprise there I suppose). Can anyone offer a reliable mechanic or possible solution to this problem. I might add that this apparently happened to her last Patrol as well.
.

Hello and welcome , have read on this forum somewhere about faulty electronic throttle / pedals but its not too common. Down on power,if its
an 03 /04 gu 3.0 L and never had the intercooler replaced , almost certain it will be cracked or leaking . they all go . you will find heaps of info
on this forum . just start looking around . cheers .

Well, my friend had her Patrol looked at and fortunately the guy knew what he was doing. It was the Air Flow Sensor that was faulty. Cost around $700 I think, but a lot less than $6000 for a computor. He also advised her not to use 5th gear when towing as they don't like it.
He reckons that the 3 Litre model is one of the most unreliable 4WD's you could own. I used to have a Landrover discovery and I thought that was problematic.
After finding out about all the problems these things have I don't think that my wife and I will ever get a Nissan in the future for towing a caravan.
The biggest concern I have is the fact that Nissan themselves are very coy about, or to incompetent to bother with trying to really help their customers.
I wish everyone out there who owns a 3.0 Litre model the best of luck.
Cheers
Brian.
