I have just paid for the Auto and Gas to be serviced and a feul pump to be replaced.
I am wanting to do a Oil and filter change on my 1989 4.2 GQ Engine for the first time.
Can someone please let me know how much oil the engine should take?
Cheers Andrew

I take it you have a TB42 (4.2 ltr petrol)
The GQ service manual says 8.2lts with a filter change but I have always found it to be closer to 8.5lts when servicing my own.
Replacement oil filter is a Z9

I will also be servicing my engine next weekend (TB42 Carby). Which oil is reccomended for these motors for general every-day use with the odd 4WD'ing trip?

For petrol engine oils I have to say im a Penrite fan & run Penrite HP/GAS in mine as I run duel fuel. It has around 90,000 k's up now on its new engine & its kept things ticking over very nicely.
The manual recommends a API SE or SF 15w40 however I run a heavier dutied 25w60 for extra protection. (I would also suggest running a heavier oil in an older engine with a few ks up on it)
As far as brands are concerned the choice is yours but I'd tend to stick with the well known/good rep ones as this is the life blood of your engine after all.

Thanks for that. I am also a fan of Penrite HPR and have used their oils in my previous cars aswell. Sounds like ill be sticking with them for a while. Best bang for buck IMHO.
