My 04 4.2 coild cab is starting to blow a bit of smoke and chew a bit more juice. it has 190 on the clock. a mate suggested injectors may be the cause? how often do they need to be done? my ute has a 3'' exhaust, has the turbo running 12 psi and has had to fuel pump tweaked. will i need to get it re-dyno'd after the new injectors? i recieved a quote for $1080 from a well regarded shop to fit reco injectors and re-dyno and tweak everything. is this reasonable? $140 per injector and $240 for dyno.
cheers for the imput, jake

Have you tried PetroJect over at Newmarket? Another member on here got some detail from them recently and they seem to be both reasonably priced and know what they're talking about ... that's probably just for the injector side of things, and you can still do the dyno through the mob you found ...
Food for thought is all ...

what are the avantages of going to a bigger injector? power increase? would it have a big impact on my fuel economy?

its mostly to stop the engine running lean with a larger turbo, injectors have a little room above the peak so can compensate a small amount, running slightly larger injectors doesnt always mean more fuel usage, its mostly to stop strain in the injector system or to lessen it.
Do you know the flow rate of the ones you have in it?

Either injectors have gotten a lot more expensive or they are a bit on the high side. I bought 6 new injectors from Hiflo in 2007 for $300. The next ones I do myself. We've got two y60s in the family, so i bought an injector tester, a bunch of new nozzles and washers. All i need is to pick up a shim kit. A mate of mine has found that by slightly increasing the breaking pressure and slightly increasing the IP timing, his NA Td4.2 goes like it has a turbo on it. He did up a set for me two years ago. I'll be dropping them in next spring on my 5 spd. Then I have a go at doing a set for my wife's auto. Just need to build me a nice clean test bench to work on.

I have found this place for injectors they are quiet cheap for reconditioned injectors as i have looked around and they can be pricey these guys quoted me $75 or so a injector that is when you give them your old ones
Here is a link to a site and they have been specializing in diesel engines for 50 years so i assume they would be good

Could be cracking pressure falling on your injectors and/or dirty injectors. If you have a mate that can do the work just get then sonic cleaned and spray tested. Then decide where to go next. You did check your air and oil filter?
