 Greetings all, im hoping to get some direction on keeping the servicing costs down on my 2003 Patrol, I do my own oil and filters and while I would love to afford to take it to a dedicated 4x4 place, they all seem to want to charge $$$ to tell me what needs doing. At the other end is the likes of Kmart, who seem happy enough for me to even throw the parts i get at them and do a set list of items that they quote for....but....do they know what they are doing with my car? As always, somewhere in between is the compromise and I should really get access to some knowledge myself irrespective so at least I know whats going on with the car.

cheers~!

G'day tarman

Welcome to the forum and great to have you onboard.

I have absolutely squat knowledge about mechanics and take mine to large franchisee. Been very happy with them so far. Having said that, they've changed hands. and the last couple of services with the family car have been less than re-assuring. Left tools under the bonnet and forgot to re-set the 'service due' light. I'm not gunna travel 150k's and tell them to fix it then drive 150k's home.

I'm learning a bit from the people here too. Lotsa knowledge to assist you in your decision making process.

Take care out there.

Nice intro mate, welcome.

You will find your in between the Kmart and the 4B specialist doing the basic stuff yourself. The Kmart guy will know what he is doing with your basic service, but a basic service is just that, BASIC. You CAN do that yourself with care and confidence. Oil changes are a little messy but very simple.

Chase advice and knowledge here mate, thats a good call. Know when the major stuff is due and think about paying for that but a 5000km oil change would be expensive and madness to pay to get done. Learn your car, you may need that knowledge one day. We are here to help.

Glad to see your committed to your car. good call.

Enjoy your Stay here and enjoy your Nissan. Good choice.

Welcome
