Michelle,
Let hubby read my reply. I beleive getting a later model Patrol may not be the answer for you guys. You still don't know what you a re going to get. At least if you finish your rig, you know what you have done so far.
If you sell you may get between $1500 and $3000 grand if it's running sweet, lookin good and complete with 50%tread on set of tyres. To get an average cond ition GQ will cost between $3500 and $6000, and a good GQ or later from $5000 upwards. So you are at least $2000 behind after selling yours, what's your car worth. And, is $1500 enough for all the work you have already put in to YOUR BABY?

You cant put a price on experience and good times
Gee some people pay $6 for a cup of coffee FFS ......
I spent along time doin my MK ute and it has to go as ive bought something thats a bit wifey friendly , auto with all the goodies (happy wife happy life...)
It hasnt sold yet and i aint given it away, that said im doin another patrol this time a shorty
I enjoy tinkering , the people i meet the help and assistance i get from forums and people and i try to help others where i can
I enjoy chasing bits n pieces and building to time frames or budgets, thats more fun than "Cheque book buying/building"
You cant put a price on stuff like that
Finish it,it wont break the bank and youll enjoy it more than a new "I dont wanna scratch it" car ...

Full agreement with MQ, I've got not a clue on what I'm doing but the amount of PMs, tips, hints and readjustments of clueless plans that has been passed on to me is worth more than I can put a figure on. Admittedly finding parts is friggen hard but when you do find that part, tis like the holy grail (until the next part).
A year down the track you'll be thanking your lucky stars you didn't cave in and buy a GU or something even more fragile.

Hey Bro, if you haven't already found it, there is a section in the forum under 'General discussions' for each make of patrol. You may find your answers there or post a question where it is more likely to be read. Not everyone has followed Michelle's story.
Sorry to hear your saga Michelle, was so please to see another chick with greasy nails. Be sure and share your next project with us though, cause we have no doubt you will find one.
Regards, Thelma and Louise
