I have a 1990 tb42 with 326000km on it I have just done the tappets to 0.38mm and 1 or 2 still have the rattle, what can I comfortably go done to ensuring no valve burning. Does anyone have a cold setting as working on a hot engine in a patrol with a 2” lift and a stuffed neck is no fun.

Have you had a read of this thread mate. It might answer your question.

Also, I'm going to delete your other question that is the same so we don't have a double up.

Let us know if that post doesnt help you mate.

I've tried a cold set & found when hot the settings were all over the joint so I'd stick to the hot ( or warm) setting.

Have you set tappets before? You really have to have a good feel for feeler Gauges to get an accurate setting. Also lobe positioning is extremely important as well, follow the guide in the link posted above If you are unsure as its a good step by step.

To make like easier on myself I brought a wheel step from super cheap for around $40, Its a fold out step thats adjustable to suit the wheels size & height you require & just hangs on the wheel of choice. (great for getting to roof racks as well)

Money well spent I can tell you.
