WARNING: We all need to be careful of dirtbikers while 4wding.
This following video is a head on between a dirtbike and 4wd. The dirtbiker should not have been speeding and this probably wouldn't have happen BUT we still need to be mindful of dirtbikers.

I don't like that they make so much noise, but at least you can generally hear when they are on the way and getting closer.
The worst experience of that kind I ever had was sitting in the front of a Bedford bushfire tanker in Blue Mountains National Park in the very early 80s rolling along slowly (they were slow even when trying to be fast) and having a landrover come around a corner head on with two kids sitting on the bonnet behind the bullbar. We all managed to stop with some room to spare without the kids being thrown over the bullbar. I reckon the landy driver may have been too silly to change his pants, but I wasn't given the opportunity to inspect my driver's yellow overalls. The cab smelt ok, so we must have both kept it under control.

A mothers nightmare, and a Dads.
Both my boys ride as well and they have both come to grief on the odd occasion.
The thing is with bikes, when ya comeagutsa, it's always not in ya favour.
I hope your boys wear all the safety gear Snicko, but even the best gear won't stop all damage.
Cheers ferret.

That could have been so much worse, I have seen much worse, I dunno but the bikers always seem ta go real hard, it's as tho they don't have other track users on their mind.
I used ta be the same, give it shirt, guess I was lucky.
Sadly some don't get off so lightly.

at the end of the day if one dies neatly doing what makes one happy, then that's not a bad outcome for the individual.
Of course in reality that will impact on so many others. esp like here the driver of the 4wd.
And sadly, many do not die neatly. And many do not die at all, and do not recover.
difficult!

Is there any other reason 2 own a dirtbike.......there's just nothing like tearing around a trail as fast as you can push yourself and the bike :)
And yes we do need 2 be aware of dirtbike riders as much as dirtbike riders need 2 be aware of 4WD drivers, There are some considerate dirtbike riders out there and there are also the idiots that have no respect for anybody or anything, just the same as 4wd drivers.
Its just another classic example that there is a bigger need for legal recreational parks, that keep both vehicles apart.

The boys are really good with wearing their gear. Hubby use to ride too until he came a gutsa. He had all the gear on, came off and busted both his ankles!! We recon if he didn't have proper riding boots on his feet would have been facing the other way. So you are right Ferret the gear protects but doesn't stop all the damage.

Have only been to one park, was really impressed when I saw Rover Park's setup, heaps of bikes doing their thing safely away from other vehicles.
And all the small kids having a hoot learning to ride while Mum & Dad could watch from the campsites around the fence.

The way it should be Macca, I have been 2 a couple of parks over the years but they were all dedicated 2 bikes only, The best one I have been 2 is Lue station near mudgee. Excellent park and very strict with there rules for safety reasons, get caught breaking a rule and your out of the park.

Yeah unfortunately some parks still have mixed use tracks, unsafe if you ask me. And no I haven't been to any yet, but have heard about them.

Totally agree Tim, very unsafe having both using the same tracks, never would ride or 4b in a park that shared, I don't mind if they are both in the same park as long as its separate tracks.

A couple of Easter's ago we were driving out of the Buckland Valley (on the main road) and the lead cars navigator (handbrake) was talking to us on the radio when suddenly she shouted "bike, bike, bike !!!!!" An idiot on a trail bike came blasting around a blind corner with bare feet, no helmet, no shirt and no brains. He dropped the bike and slid under the front of the Patrol. Luckily my mate was able to stop in time and no real damage was done. By the time I got there (tail end charlie) I saw a very sore idiot pushing his bike down the road, complete with limp. He was a VERY lucky dill.

Your right there todd. It is soooo fun to push yourself on a bike. But yeah, i always keep in mind that im the one who's going to pay when i crash.
Ive seen the exact same accident happen and for the same reason but with two 4wds or two cars (its on the news nearly every night). Its just that a biker gets hurt more.
Most places i ride are bikes only and the biggest fear is hitting another bike coming the other way.
The other place I ride is on the road (registered bike) and the biggest fear is hitting someone coming the other way!
Doesnt stop me from riding, just makes me ride smarter, think quicker and yes, slow down occasionally
Good luck out there fellow riders

I have a bike as well as the Patrol and when I'm in the Patrol I'm always wary of trailbikes. I think once you've been on tracks in both it makes you more aware.
Most places I ride bikes share the trails with 4wds and when we are on trails where 4wds might be I always slow down and ride at the back of the group. Once we hit there tight trails 4wds can't fit, then I ride hard.
The trouble with the bikes is situational awareness so to speak, at those speeds you can only see whats directly ahead and with the sound of the bike and a helmet on you can't hear a damn thing.

They are dirt bikes a out for a bash, they dont even have rego. I would say the 4x4 was on a public track heading to wet a line and the silly bugger riding like a fool got what was coming.
I use to race dirt bikes and sand is a hard to ride in and at that pace and easy to lose control. It looks like a 2 way track from the start of he footage and they to of roostering around blind corners. sorry but had to giggle with the out come......

I am sorry to hear about your mate. And you are absolutely right.. I willingly admit I hate bikes, but I do not wish to run them down and am always petrified of this happening.
We all just need to share our beautiful country.
