GDay,I am rebuilding the top end of my ZD30 " pre detination " new cyilinder head, intercooler, injectors ,glowplugs and turbo ect
I was wondering if any one has had experiance with aftermarket turbochargers. I am considering a GT205V .The original garrett has only done 120k with oil changes every 5k and has lots of play and a lump when rotated could another option be better?
Thanks Baboo.

Hey, Baboo. I recently replaced my zd30 with a reco one. Got new injectors, glow plugs, water pump, clutch, the whole works and jerks, including a new non-genuine turbo.
From the first test drive it seemed unresponsive, had a flat spot you could walk around and was basically a disappointment given the cash I'd parted with. All settings were to factory specs.
Decided to get in on the dyno after first oil change (1000k ish) and was told the turbo wasn't performing as it should. No boost down low, and never quite delivered anywhere in rev range. This was most likely the cause of air fuel ratios being out leading to higher temps etc. etc. In his opinion the turbo was a chinese after market job based on data sheets he'd seen many times before. Long story short.. on advice I bought a genuine one $1573 incl gaskets.
When i pulled the chinese one off the vanes on the intake side looked like they'd been fed gravel. The cast that the housing bolts from the vnt side had broken off and headed north towards my brand new motor. I then pulled everything off up to the throttle body. The intercooler had caught a lot of the shrapnel on the turbo side of it but I still found tiny pieces in pipes leading to throttle body. Luckily I hadn't installed the catch can and the coating of oil trapped a lot of the pieces of steel. Poured all the petrol I washed everything in through a filter and what I collected did not put a smile on my face. I'll post some pics of everything when i get back from work. This whole motor and components had done less than 1300k. Was steel filings in filter and oil at first change too.
I installed genuine turbo and the change was instant and astounding to say the least. Took a few goes to sort out correct boost (help from the people here on this forum made it easier) but its performance was now a bit more like I'd expected.
Still less than happy about the feed of steel the engine has had and will be speaking with those I need to.
With the benefit of 20/20 hind sight I would 100% buy genuine from the get go. In your case I'd replace your original Garrett with the same thing. I'm not a mechanic or engineer and this is only the experience I've had not more than a couple of mths ago but hopefully it may help. I'm sure others will offer some insight and good advice.
Cheers
