Hi All

As some will be aware I have just purchased a 2002 td42, I am replacing the clutch as it slips in 4th gear up hills, Worn out at 300 000k,
I was going to replace rear main oil seal, spigot bush, Slave cylender, I was considering replacing the rubber boot on top of box & the selector bush.

Does anyone think I have missed anything or am i wasting my time with any of this?

Your opinions would be greatly appriciated

Slave cylinder is not essential unless it's leaking and is easy to replace with the gearbox in place. Selector bush is up to you, is the gear lever loose feeling?
The rest I would do.
Are you fitting a standard clutch or something a bit more heavy duty?

Also make sure you get the flywheel machined (about $40).
You may as well get the front seal of the gearbox replaced and new hand brake shoes.
Check the gearbox mounts for wear and replace if needed.

Ben.

Hi Tony/Ben

I have ordered a new clutch Genuine, Only $500 for kit, I have had issues regarding aftermarket clutches before (differant vehicle I must confess) so I try to stick to genuine parts myself if not too much dearer. Yes I will definately get flywheel machined this is a given.
I will look into the handbrake shoes (good idea)

As for heavy duty clutch, I was happy with 300000k out of a clutch & always concerned about the more pressure on clutch fork & other bits like bearings.
What is the deal with heavier duty clutches, Do they feel the same, wear longer, any downsides?

Any welch/freeze plugs on the back of the motor would be a good idea to replace as well

A heavy duty clutch will have a slightly higher clamping force on the pressure plate.
the clutch pedal will be slightly heavier, clutch will last about the same as a standard one may be a little longer.

HD will be better if you pull a lot of weight

some would say that it is worth replacing the throwout bearing, yoke and pivot point just because it is so labour intensive to get in there. I'd definitely do the bearing
