Gear Box Noise

HI , i have a 2003 litre turbo and i have a noise in 4th and 5th gear , it has only just started in last 400 odd ks it a appears to be louder in 5th gear , not sure if is a bearing or a bigger problem.

Welcome to the forum AJ, it's always nice to post an introduction before asking questions. No harm done though.

Getting back to basics have you checked the gearbox oil?
Early GU manuals had a problem with a weak 5th gear but these normally let go without warning (no noises) so may not be related to your fault.

It isnt likely to be the usual 5th gear problem if it is forth as well. What sort of noise is it Mr King? Crunching? Whiring?

It is a whiring noise and it is only there under load , goes quite when you take your foot .
