I don't know of anyone who has put a VQ35 in a Patrol, I don't think the high revving nature of the naturally aspirated VQ35 would suit the big heavy Patrol but I could be wrong.

Is your 2.8 dead or are you just looking at the 350Z motor and thinking "sweet, wonder if it'll fit?"

Go with a RB25det if your wanting a petrol engine. If your wanting a diesel go with the TD42.

if you are looking to replace the engine only, you have limited options. any of the RB engines (the ones that are found in the skylines) and the RD28 engine. if you want to change the gearbox and engine, the TD42 is a good choice, but you will need to change engine and gearbox mounts. also it starts to get expensive getting both an engine and gearbox to replace. The RB engines can be bought in half cuts from Japan and include the wiring harnesses so every thing works. the easiest fix is just to put another RD28T into it. if you are looking to sell the car in the future, a car with an original type engine will sell easier.
