So I am guessing I am starting to have a fuel pump problem. I am losing prime in the fuel filter in the morning, but she runs fine all day.
I am going to install an inline fuel pump before the fuel filter today but I would also like to replace the stock fuel pump in the fuel tank. Everything I have found has been for the Gas version. I am in the US, so i will need to find something out of country.
Does anyone know if these "gas" fuel pumps will work? https://www.ebay.com/itm/306719599540

As far as I know, the safari runs 24volt instead of 12volt on other normal models. There is a voltage reducer for part of the dash cluster, but I'm not sure which gauges or indication lights it is for. Check you haven't got an air leak somewhere in the fuel lines.

I do have 2 batteries, however have not determined yet what is 12v and what is 24v. If anyone knows, please let me know.
I had thought about the air leak theory but since the fuel system is pressurized at the tank, I should have a fuel leak under power.
So here are the symptoms. Ran fine for 8 months. A week ago she started ran for 10 seconds then acted like it was starving for fuel. Revved (carefully) past it and she drove, but sputtered a little for 20 seconds then ran like normal. Next day, checked the fuel filter primer, and it pumped up about 30 pumps, then got stiff. Started and ran fine. Went into a store and left her running, when I came out she accelerated fine at first, but then sputtered some, then ran fine the rest of the way home, so she is losing some prime at idle.
I figure the aux fuel pump will rule out some things if it works. I will update. Would love to hear any opinions.

Still no answer. Does anyone know what in tank fuel pump is needed for a 1996 Nissan Safari TD42t. Is it 12v? Can I use the one listed for gasoline for diesel?
Thanks

Hi Ricor,
Diesel engine? Is there an in tank fuel pump at all?

Yes, it seems like the same one they are selling for gas engines, and back in the 90's the rule "if it looks right, go ahead and use it" worked much more than it does with new cars!
I wouldn't want to use a diesel pump in gas, it might not be spark protected or something like that, but gas to diesel SHOULD be fine.
SO I can find an in tank fuel pump that is for my year, but references only GAS, but it looks exactly like mine... What do i do?

If you have an electric fuel pump inside the tank I don't think it's original equipment. The VE injection pump on the Safari TD42T is designed to suck the required fuel from the tank.
A common fix for tired injection pumps is to fit an electric lift pump in the fuel line between the tank and the injection pump. There's lots of info online about this mod.
