Hi
I drove about 100 metres in my 1997 GQ patrol before it lost power and stalled. I called the RAA who found the bleed hose very loose and empty of fuel with none spilled out despite being loose. They tried to prime and nothing. They said it was a fuel issue. I got it towed to my local mechanic who has just rung and said when they pour petrol straight into the engine it turns over, but beyond that they don't know how to fix the issues and don't have the tools to pull apart the fuel pump. it needs to go to a diesel mechanic. I asked them when you turn it over can you hear the fuel pump turn over and they said yes. Of note i guess for full context is that the last time the serviced the car they changed the fuel filter. I'm not sure why the bleed hose was loose given it wasnt long since the last service and that they were working in the general area. My question is, is there anything i can ask them to check that might be at the root of the issue, before paying the money for a tow as this one i won't get through RAA and ive been quoted $150, and then also pay for the diesel mob to likely to all the same initial checks my local mechanic did. Ive read online that air issues can create these syptoms and given the bleed hose was loose could and air issue been caused? or can i ask them to check any other hoses or fittings that might be the source of the issue, or anything else to just make sure before going down the next chapter of expense?
