Hi Everyone,

I purchased a brand new Nissan Patrol 2022 Y61 4.8L engine in UAE (we still have this running here). Have the vehicle from 0Km and love it a lot.

So as my dealer warranty is coming to an end this november, my question is which engine oil do i use 5w30, 10w40, 20w50?? The manual shows 5w30 is ok dealer also uses same grade, when checking other oil websites, they recommend 10w40, and my known mechanic recommends me 20w50.

Getting confused all the way. my plan is to buy a barrel of engine oil 5w30 API SP, ILSAC GF6, GM Dexos 1 Gen3, as this grade of oil i can use in my other cars as well. Wanted to know from the forum the best suitable engine oil for Y61 for UAE summers of 50 Degree Celsius.

I follow the 6 month or 10,000Kms oil change interval for my cars faithfully.

Welcome to the forum. After many years of owning high kilometre vehicles, all I can tell you is that as an engine gets older and starts to rattle a bit or use more oil, I switch up a grade or two. Some newer engines have variable valve timing systems which work on oil pressure. I don't know if using a much thicker grade might have some adverse effects on that.

Apart from filling the fuel tank with the correct fuel, engine oil is the most important fluid you can put in your car. Being a 2022 model I would stick strictly with what the owner’s manual recommends for your motor and region. I would not even consider compromising just so you can buy a barrel to service multiple vehicles to “save” money. You would be insane to do that.
