Ok I have a 93 tb42e auto. I was having issues with the old auto in it so I sourced another 2nd hand ( rebuild 10000k ago) auto out of a tb42 with a new converter. After a bit of changing things we fitted it today for the 3rd time. It keeps dumping the fluid out the bell housing. The first time I got about 15kms out of it. All i changed was the box converter and used a carby flex plate. The 2nd time I replaced the seal and got about 1m out of it so Scotty, dhuck and i removed and refitted it today using all the EFI auto parts bell housing, converter and spacer plate between the box and transfer. Same issue got about 5kms and it dumped the fluid out the bell housing. Any one got any serious ideas as I'm over pulling out the box. So just to re-cap I'm using a rebuilt box with new seal with my old converter and transfer now but still dumping oil.

As we discussed, blockage in the lines or oil cooler causing the pressure to build up as it heats up and then blows the seal out as the point of least resistance??
Hope you sort it mate - that was a disheartening result after so much effort ...

I hope it's that simple. My only question is why didn't it do it befor? The problem was it didn't want to drive in D or R when it was cold, not dumping oil. And why does it dump all the oil? You would think it would release the pressure than build again.

Good points .... maybe PM YNOT (Tony) for some suggestions - I think he's a bit under the weather (crook), but might be on in the morning.

mine didn't want 2 change out of 2nd when cold, was fine after driving a few ks down the road. Now it just don't want 2 change out of 2nd period!

The thing that sucks the most was it teased us by sitting there running and not leaking. Letting me drive 5kms down the road then just spewing it out the bell housing dumping 6-7lt in 2kms. It's a smart ass my car. Never had a problem like that in old Tojo. Lol

What condition was the seal in after it dumped the oil, was it damaged or not sitting correctly in its housing?
The first thing I would check is the gearbox breather, if it were blocked the pressure inside the trans would build as the temperature rose eventually to the point of the first seal failing dumping the fluid.
This would explain why it didn't do it with the old trans or while it's cold.

When we pulled it out, the seal was in tact, but sitting forward out of it's housing enough so you could pull it out easily by hand. The breather sounds a good call also - my thoughts were that when cold (with the seal in properly, all was hunky dory until it heated up and as it had nowhere to go, it pushed the seal out and spewed out that way - what you're suggesting sounds spot on based on what I saw with it.

im hearing ya but i think the seal was only loose as i didnt fit it all the way last time. The seal that i replaced was in tight but it still dumped the trans fluid out of that one. Well pull it out again tomorrow if its not raining to much and blow out the lines..... wouldnt you think if it was a blocked breather it would come out the dip stick filler?

Changed over the pump from the old 1 and she doesn't dump oil now....... Yet. But. I had reverse, drove it out the driveway, now I've got no reverse..... Wtf? Checked the fluid levels there good. Ya can feel it go in but not enough pressure to drive it backwards.
