I have a Ultra Gauge on my dash that, among other things, monitors my coolant temp. Lately it seems to be running a little warmer across the spectrum. Instead of ranging fro 86c to 89c depending on hills etc, it ranges from about 87c to 91C. It has never got to the stage that I was worried about over heating but it did make me do some basic checks. Mainly fluid level. My radiator was replaced about 12 months ago along with the thermostat and naturally the fluid was replaced at the same time. I am leaning on a new viscous fan hub. Its the original from when I bought the car in 2012.

Is there any gotcha's doing this job that I should be aware of. I plan on using a genuine Nissan part.

Cheers all.

Mine always ran at the higher temps from new, never had an issue. Also a few degrees higher when towing, and we did a fair bit of that.

I had some time this morning and did some testing of the viscous fan. Went for a about a one hour drive to get the engine proper warmed up. Shut it down and turned the fan by hand. There is no resistance at all. Does this confirm a stuffed coupler?

Cheers all.

There should be some resistance. If its the original hub, its probably time to change it out.

It is the original one. I'll get this done soon. Thanks.

New viscous coupler arrived Friday. I pulled the fan shroud and fan off. I have decided that since I'm this far down the rabbit hole I will also replace the water pump. I have just ordered a new genuine from Patrolapart. Should have it by about Wednesday. It doesnt look like too much of a hard job to replace the pump. Am I fooling myself? What is others experience? Good, bad, ugly? Cheers Brian.

I think there pretty easy if you have everything off and have easy access. While its apart i would be changing out the tensioner and belt, replacing any idler pulley bearings there may be and getting the radiator professionally cleaned. If they've never been looked at before....

Belt tensioner was replaced about 12 months ago along with the radiator. So all good there. That's part of the reason I am replacing the water pump. Everything else is new so that may as well be.

I see up to 95-96 towing a trailer full of gear up a hill. Generally 87-89 around town. Have replaced the expansion tank and all the hoses and performed yearly coolant flushings, 225kms the hub and pump are original.

Hi Dear, could someone help with the repair Manual ?

Thanks

This is proving to be a night mare. There are four nuts and studs that hold the viscous clutch to the water pump. I got two of those off with no issues. But the last two refuse the budge. Now one of them is nicely rounded off.... FFS. Looks like a angle grinder cutting disk is my last resort. But I plan on having a cold ale or two and think about it first......

New pump and viscious coupler installed. Took a while to burp the system but all good now. Has anyome had a shit time getting the nuts of the pump/coupler flanges? I had to use a angle grinder for two of them. Nuts made of butter.

I tried getting those nuts off once and nearly rounded them too, I left it thinking I would upgrade the pump & hub at a later date

The issue is that there is not enough room to get a good 6 point ring spanner in. I had to use a open end spanner. Two nuts cam off relatively easy. The last two were complete bastards. If anyone has to do this be prepared to replace the water pump along with the coupler.
