I am having a GVM upgrade with a tough dog kit on my GU3 TD42Ti so as to tow a med size caravan 18". The fitters said that it has to be engineered to 3550 kg as it is a set compliance by the kit manufactures. Unfortunately this extra 50kg takes me over the 3.5 gvm allowed for road service eligability and possibly insurance affordability in some cases. Has anyone had one of these fitted where the engineer was able to reduce the GVM to under the 3500kg and still be compliant. I am really only chasing an extra 200 kg max and this upgrade is really the only answer I can find available now. NSW registration with NRMA road service.
Cheers.

Our Patrol had an upgraded GVM to 3900kg. Leaf sprung ute 2006 TD42i.
Used recovery service several times over the years. Weight was never mentioned & was not not charged extra on insurance.
Our previous vehicle, a 7 metre bus with a GVM of 5.2t was treated just the same twice. Often (in outback areas at least) whether they will recover you depends upon the capacity of the the tow truck.
At 3.550t I would be amazed if the RAC etc would refuse to recover you. As it is the limit for the RACV (Total Care) is 8 tonnes. 'Standard' roadside assistance limit is 4 tonnes. Our OKA motorhome is within their size & weight limits. We have travelled with Total care for years & consider it a 'no brainer'. Service when we have needed it could not have been better.

I recently had RACV Total care service at Mt dare. The pick up agent passed comment the truck was over my 3500 declaration, but he just put more air in the tires and did the job. I have since weighed the vehicle at home and its sitting at 3600kg which is 200 under the GVM upgrade. I doubt you will have a problem.
