hello,

I drive a 2022 nissan patrol and have an ongoing issue with the right hand indicator on the caravan.

I will startup in the morning and all lights on the van work. I will check the lights again after around 1 hour driving and the right hand indicator has stopped functioning and does not restart. Next morning startup and again the r/h indicator works, check an hour later and it has ceased to operate and so on and so on.

I have isolated it to the car using a multi meter but have no idea what is going on. When the light fails on the van no voltage is coming from the r/h indicator car side of the plug. There are no dash warnings and the r/h indicator on the car operates normally. Its almost like it resets overnight.

This has been going on for months now.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Brendan

If the car indicators work correctly, it has to be either the wiring to the trailer connector, or the connector itself. There is nothing else in there. Pretty basic circuit.

Check the earths at the light fittings. I run a separate wire from the vehicle socket to the chassis to provide a better earth. I recently had a bulb that would get hot and stop working because the factory solder was very poor.

I have never had a car this new (2022) myself, but I assume it has CANBUS. I have read that CANBUS is a PITA and doesn't like different types of bulbs, etc. For example, if people change a regular bulb for an LED one, they have to add something called a CANBUS canceler. So, by your report of this being "self fixing" or self resetting every day, it makes me wonder if the car required some OEM or compatible towing socket cabling. Seems like it could be "detecting" an unwanted or uncompatible load, isolating the port on the plug and upon starting up fresh it would go over the same thing again.
