ZD30 2005 Hard to Start

HI Guys and Girls
hoping someone can offer up some suggestions:
I have a 05 ZD30 which is occasionally (2-3 times a week) hard to start (over about 6 months).
Symptoms:
Turn On
Wait for coil light to go out
Turn “Start” (it seems to crank well) (Crank for 3)
Turn to “On” and then “Start” and starts (Crank 1)
Plume of beautiful smoke. hmmm diesel gotta love the smell

This is not always on cold start.

I have tried:
New battery
New Glow Plugs
New Fuel Filter


My thoughts:
Fuel pressure not being held at injectors?
Fuel not priming (fuel pump, not excited about this one)

any other tests or checks i should run to try and diagnose

Also tried priming fuel filter before starting no difference

Have you checked that the glows plugs are getting power?

Is the engine cranking fast enough? (possible faulty starter motor).

What colour is the smoke?

Hows you coolant level? has it dropped?
