Hi all,

My name is Simon and I'm from south east QLD. I thought I'd already become a member of this forum but apparently not. I've previously owned a 1988 SWB GQ, I couldn't handle all the power of the carbied TB42 so I swapped in a LS1 engine. I fully stripped the cab and had it repainted in a Renault grey and changed over to GU diff housings with an auto lokka in the front. It was a beast of a car and suited our little family until our second kid came along and the shorty ran out of doors. So I've recently sold it and bought an '08 GU with a stuffed CRD ZD30 in it. I'm currently going through the process of fitting a turbo'd barra engine in front of the Nissan 5 speed manual box and it'll be our new adventure wagon for hopefully many years to come.

Thanks for having me. I'm sure I'll be able to source some knowledge for my current engine swap and hopefully give some help back in return.

Cheers mate, I loved the SWB GQ but the LS made it more fun to drive. I put a mild cam in the LS and had it tuned which made it heaps better.

I bought this GU knowing the engine was stuffed so I haven't actually driven it yet. I also haven't driven a turbo'd barra yet, so I'm not sure what to expect. But it's got to be better than having two child seats in the back of a shorty, my back won't handle that kind of gymnastics for long.
