Glow Plug Removal.

Hi all, is there any precautions needed to remove the glow plugs in a 3.0 CRD. I've read that they can be broken if care not taken.

I remember doing these on my old Di, I soaked them in WD40 over night before attempting to undo them.

To be honest I can't remember. I think soaking them overnight helped, on a cold engine too.

They break easily when doing them up, not undoing them. It's not the main body that breaks, it's the little bit that the positive power rail connects to.

Mine came out no worries, 2008 with 220,000kms.

Once you pull them out you can hook power up to them to test them, replace if no good. Get a couple of spares incase you break them :devilred:

I have four new ones to go in when I replace the valve cover and associated seals. Mine are working ok at the moment at 270K. I'm a bit conflicted as to weather I should replace them or not.

personally I'd replace while you got access if you got them ready to go, keep the old ones as spares

The manual says that the clips for the bleed back tubes need to be replaced if removed. I have a new bleed back tube assy but none have these clips. Do the really need to be replaced? I'm thinking of doing this job this weekend.

I have never replaced them, although I've replaced the bleed line a few times.

That part I had dramas with was after replacing all fuel tubes, where the bleed line attaches to the metal return pipe above the injector pump, I had to double up on clamping & tie wire to stop the tube from leaking. If you do get a drip you can spot it by glancing under the intercooler while idling.
