Ok, recently i replaced the dash in my wagon, which involved a perfectly working passenger airbag. To get the dash out I lowered the steering column via the 2 12mm nuts etc..unclipped everything and put the new dash in.. All this was done with battery dissconnected but now all is back in ... blinking airbag lights... Other posts I've seen really only reference people removing a steering wheel and getting errors, so a question I have is, is there anything else that upsets the airbag system? Removing seats? I did try a few procedures on the net but nothing. Any ideas?

Without doing a code test you are only guessing what the fault may be. It could be either of the air bags, a wiring fault or possibly a pyrotechnic seat belt pretensioner (if fitted). Diagnosing these systems is dangerous if you are not properly trained and have the right equipment and knowledge of how to use it. Best leave it to the professionals.

Yeah good advice tony, I can't say I'm too keen on rectifying it myself, as I wouldn't have a clue about the whole airbag thing. Looks like I'm donating to nissans Christmas fund :-( just a little bitter when all that was done was unplugging the passenger side from the harness. Ah well...

Ummm????

Mate why are YOU replacing the dash?? I note in your sig line that you have a 2006 Ute and a 2004 wagon?? did you replace the dash because it blistered?? If so then go back to your Nissan dealer, demand a refund on the cost of the dash i assume you have bought and tell them to fix the bloody thing. You should never have had to be in there.

Damn!!! GRRRRRRR NISSAN :furious:

Haha, yeah I wish the dash had blistered and all that, probably would have been a cheaper venture. Nah, the old dash got a big hole in the center when I installed a 12 inch touchscreen nav unit/ computer. Outstanding while it lasted but not friendly on the dash. As there was a hole the size of a bloody fridge where the stereo is mean to be. Now I'm back to the rocking tunes of the standard clarion stereo new dash, new crossmember behind the dash and yeah you know the rest :-/

Well just an update, took the wagon to the nice folk at Nissan, who ran their little computer over it. It come up with some history fault, which had nothing to do with anything I'd done. 5 minutes later I was on my way with my wallet un touched. Fairly happy with that.... Thanks to all for your suggestions.

Glad you got it sorted easily mate.

One other thing I should mention on the subject is if you ever find your airbag fuse blown, do not under any circumstances replace it.
Some airbag systems will deliberately blow the fuse to disable the system if certain faults are detected that could lead to unnecessary deployment of the airbags. Replacing the fuse will put the system in a diagnostic mode to assist technician diagnosis but if the vehicle is driven in this condition the airbags may deploy creating very dangerous situation.

Haha, yes that would suck. I've had an airbag deploy on me once, and vowed never to go down that road again, hence why this light made me so nervous. You would have noticed me today though, I was the one driving to Nissan with my body inside and head OUTSIDE the car :-)

I've set quite a few off deliberately (controlled environment) without a problem, but I have also seen one, luckily a small side airbag, go off right beside an apprentices head. It burst his ear drum and near knocked him out, he had trouble breathing for a while too.

If I may ask. I too have a Airbag question my light just stays on all the time from the moment i start the patrol it never flashes.
It started when my alternator crapped itself about 10 months ago I needed to replace the ECU, ALT, Airflow meter, instrument cluster, stereo, all globes inside and out, most fuses, power antenna and my central locking is still not working
Auto elec said something fused inside the alternator and it sent something like 24 volts to everything
Sooo where to start i don't want to poke around to much nor do i want to let Nissan bend me over im just guessing that its the control unit thats fried like the ECU did. Can i just buy one from the wreckers and plug it in? or do i need to buy lube for my visit to Nissan LOL
