Anyone else love servicing their vehicle?

Going over my service intervals for the time I've had the patrol...

People in passing say "service every 5,000kms" I don't even get to 4,000 half the time :)

i did mine for the first time in 2 years .. km ???? odometer stopped again.

Depends on our poor old twucks last adventures. Tassie bogholes after merely 1,000km I’ll be dumping everything in shed buckets and refreshing with new before a long distance next adventure. Only takes a very small amount of water to sneak in to start emulsifying the likes of our drivetrain oils under highway speed duress [emoji51]

Say you had a 1000 km trip, dropped the diff oils at home and they are pristine clear, no water sign, nothing. Would you discard it or put it back?
Asking just out of curiosity. I myself would put it back as these gear oils are good for some 40k km and they are expensive over here if synthetic.

You service your car on a yearly basis then? I don't usually drive 5k km on a single car a year, specially because I like to rotate using my old (more experienced LOL) cars fortnightly, so I change engine oil once a year, regardless of the odometer.

I do have the luxury of being able to utilise discarded oils around the property on the likes of mixing with Turpentine for Termites fence post painting protection etc…
Quicker answer, I am Nuffy unsure and weary of any slightest bubbles when I poke a pinky finger in diff/gear/transfer case top holes [emoji22]

Depends on a few things: Was the vehicle used for towing or harsh terrain, did you absolutely clean the drain plug and nearby sump, do you have clean containers to drain it into.
Is there much metal present on the magnet or "glitter" in the oil. In a isolated area, where getting more oil is a problem, sure , I would filter the used stuff through fine cloth and use it again. But I would probably change it out when I got back home.

Interesting that you comment about clean drain plug. I always get that WTF feeling when I see videos of internet people servicing their cars (at home, I would add) covered in dry mud. Changing oils, installing lockers, refreshing bearings and hubs... I always wash my car, specially chassis and axles before braking anything open. Not talking about changing a CV in the bush; that would be running in "survival mode" and a true necessity.

I even wash the car when taking it to a mechanic so the guy don't get dirt on his eyes when hitting a spanner on the chassis, LOL.

But to your point, yeah, this is what I meant, oil that you have no suspicious about any contamination, off-course.

No, probably 3-4 times a year. I enjoy watching dirty oil come out and putting clean stuff in. It's like mowing grass, or burning wood, very satisfying.
