Funny story.

A mate of mine just got back from a trip to Cameron's corner.
He said last Tuesday he was camped about 70k's north of Tibooburra in this remote little camp spot, no one to be seen or heard until 2 old ladies pulled up next to him and hand him the census form to fill out.

He said he was speechless and I just cracked laughing...I couldn't believe it.
Before he left he was laughing and commenting "They won't find me where I'm going..haha"

Unbelievable! When my census was delivered the lady asked if I would confirm my surname. I said "no". She gave me the forms and then asked if I would confirm how many males and females lived in my house. I said "no". I didn't fill out the census either. I'd be happy to participate if the lady would confirm to me what her full name was, where she worked, how much she earned, how many kids she had, the name of her husband, where he worked and how much he earned. But I don't think she'd want to do that. Bloody big brother BS is all it is.

can understand what your saying, you have till sept to fill out one or cope a hefty fine
you can do it on the internet and you wont hear a thing
good luck mate

The thing is wooly, the government already know all this stuff about me. How much do I earn and who do I work for? refer to my details at the tax dept. How many kids have I got? Refer to my details at births deaths marriages. Where do I live? Refer to my details with the electoral commission. What education do I have? Refer to my details at theeducation dept. Where should they build hospitals, schools? Request population details from council records.

Tell 'em to PO.

luv it hahahahaha and totally spot on

I love Censii.

For example at various times my religion has been Orcish, Celt, Atlantean and I always tell them I spend up to 120 hours a week doing housework (which drives the Missus nutso) Oh, and after consuming a couple of Slabs need help to walk, talk, shower and undress myself.

In 2014 I think I shall convert to Goth, stop working around the house completely and earn uuuummmm 1.3 trillion Kwacha.

See if that doesn't skew their precious stats... knobs!

Sorrry, but, if you don't fill it out, and your area doesn't get funding for an ambo station, hospital. etc etc etc, don't whinge! The census is Govt granted, BUT, it is their statistics bureau that puts the numbers togethor to work out what funding is needed for which age group, minority group, race, religion, sex, community as a whole. If you don, speak up you suffer in silence.

Rant Over!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hear ya Timand agree with your point but like I told these Census people..................... what has the company name and how much I earn and how much mortgage or rent I pay got to do with a housing and population survey, none of these should have any baring on how much funding the communitiy gets..................

I filled out the form because yet again you don't get a damn choice!!!!!!!!! but I put "not applicable" against any question which I felt had no relevance.......................... just happened to be almost all of them!!!!!!! roflmao

I caught myself a census collector in a cunningly devised trap !! We live on a block with no curb and guttering - only a culvert on the side of the driveway. The census collector drove into the drive way to drop off the form and when she backed out she missed the driveway and her ford ute fell backwards into the culvert !!! After I finished laughing I got the Patrol out of the shed, hooked up the winch and pulled her out. What a cackle !!! The only thing is I forgot to get some photos. Bugger.

I was a Census collector this year as well (~400 houses).

What the job entails:
Full police check
Full day of training on all the relevant legislation, delivery protocol, etc
Delivery of forms to ~400 hours @ average 20 houses per hour (and I was pretty quick for our area) mostly in the evenings and weekends so you can get people at home.
Half day of training for collection
Collect forms from ~150 houses (and 60%+ eCensus returns was pretty high, state average is more like 30-40%)
Revisit houses up to 5 times until the form is collected.

Through all of this you get abused about why I want their personal information - I don't want anything except to deliver a form and then collect it once completed, and get paid for my time.

FWIW none of the information collected is cross-referenced with the ATO, Centrelink, etc. Non-specific metrics are provided to councils, education department, health services, etc for planning purposes. There are significant differences in the data collected by Census vs the data collected by the ATO, Centrelink, Medicare, etc.

The $2000 she earned would be pre-tax.

I had green peace come to my door today, as with most people like that I am usually pretty polite to start off with. I actually hate people who turn up to my door that arn't mates with boxes of coldies lmao
This fella just started to go on and on and on about how they are making a differnce, (which some of the stuff I agree with) to the point I had to interrupt him and say look mate your wasting my time and your time now. Then the bugger tried getting into an argument with me about how hes not wasting his time. I'm annoyed, so I said to the fella, look you've got 10 seconds to leave my property, 10....9.....8....... he left lmao
I respect what these people are trying to do but for the love if god if I say I'm not interested, LEAVE!!!!!!!

Greenpeace are oxygen thieves. Sea Shepherd has achieved ten times as much in half the time because they put their balls on the line and actually DO something rather than just flag waving and hanging banners from buildings. Off topic I know but had to get that one off my chest.
No issues with that mate, you have a point tho, sea shepherd do put their arses on the line. I think green peace smoke a bit too much of the green stuff lol

So when you have an unwanted place of worship given a grant to build in your area, don't complain. Even if you were only christened as a child and don't go to church or even believe, you should have selected christian. This would have given an indication of how many christians live in Australia versus other beliefs.

but this is wear the census falls down Tim........ yes i was Christened but I do not class my self as a christian as i do not follow the faith or any faith for that matter and there are many many people like me, why should we tick the christian box just because we christened................. now does that mean our suburb is going to get any less money because of my faith or lack of it................ it would be bloody rediculous if thats the way it works.......... There were way too many questions on there that were pointless

just my thoughts

I agree, but, I would people revert back to their christian roots to show the minority groups that the Major population is christian based. As I am careful not to offend any one or push boundaries any more I will now leave this alone as I am only going to say something that will get me in trouble.

I by no means am saying what you think is wrong, I wanted to put up a thread of sugggestion before the census night, but knew I couldn't, although it on FB page. But couldn't link that here either.

But on telly, they did say if you aren't picking a religion, then leave it blank, as it will be counted as a no vote anyway.
So I figured if I'm gonna make a selection, it might as well count.

Anyways that's enough from me on this.

The whole point of it is so the government can track where you are, what u do, for other reasons like tax fraud, immigration, spying on your every move....

Agreed with almost everyone here and elsewhere, how are some of / most of the questions related to funding???

Apart from infrastructure.... Please...... Enlighten me!

Might get the old trusty flame suite out just in case

Which only works if you fail to read the underlying act which strictly prohibits the release of personally identifying data to other government units such as the ATO, immigration, Centrelink, etc.

Look at http://www.abs.gov.au/ausstats/abs@.nsf/lookup/2903.0Main%20Features132011 for several examples of how the data is used. Not all of it pertains to funding, but is used for other studies such as education level vs income level (which led to the introduction of the Higher Education Contribution Scheme to allow lower income families to send their children to university), average age of home-leavers (are kids staying at home longer?), requirements for aged care now we have an aging population (all those questions on needing assistance for body/movement functions), etc.

As for the reglion question, I have seen previous census data in that area used as justification in Council applications for new religious dwellings. I am also aware of campaigns being run by some groups to ensure that their religion is well (over?) represented in the Census to provide further justification for building approvals, selective school funding, etc.
