As the title suggests. I'm in the market for a hydraulic log splitter, my back issues are only getting worse as I age so I need to do something about it. But I'm unsure on what size, 20, 25 or 30T? My original intentions were to modify my trailer I use to collect the wood and mount the splitter on the draw bar so I can cut and split on site. Not realising how heavy these things are though. A 30T jobbie is 250kg's.

20's are around 100kg's lighter, I can do the mod's required to carry this, but will 20 be enough for some of our timbers? I know most it will as I can split them by hand. Just not sure.

Cheers.

I reckon you would want a minimum of 30t. You would rnd up leaving a fair bit if wood behind with a 20t. I just cut into rounds and the split at home and clean up afterwards.

What winnie said! Cut the rounds and split at home to stack. If you are wrecked after cutting and gathering you can split in your own time at home mate. Halves the work in the bush. You can do the splitting over a couple of weekends even.

We bought the supaswift 30T splitter that can tilt vertically.
It's a beast and will destroy anything you put in it.

I’ve got this.. bought it secondhand for $500 years ago and sold $2k worth of split wood.
Don’t know what it’s rated at but it has a 6.5hp Chinese copy Briggs petrol motor and it was strong enough to bend the foot on the machine.
Haven’t had anything it couldn’t split but I only do well seasoned wood.
I only use it vertically.

I'd need to get a bigger trailer mate if i were to just cut into rounds and load up. Which I'd love to upgrade at some point in the future. I can get over twice the amount of wood in the trailer if I split them on site. My other thought was to even just split the rounds in half on site.

Looks like 30T is the go though....

need to sort your trailer out like MB trailer. mast at the front, 10000 pount 4wd winch, and a grapple hook. drag the hole log onto the trailer and split it all conveniently at home.

I need to win tatts also to do what I'd ideally want to do.
