Replacement key fob

Hi all, my genuine Nissan key fob has died. Local key shop says about $70 for a generic replacement, genuine Nissan is like $200. Any horror stories for cheapies like the one in the link below? Cheap and says you can program yourself. Any advice? (2000 GU)

The genuine fobs are notorious for not working properly, even from new.

I did this, all that time ago and is still working.

Woah, I think only my fob is cooked. Am i reading it right that you replaced a whole lot more than a key fob? Did you have to?

There are several options around with the spring loaded key that work way better than the factory unit. I got mine on eBay and had a local locksmith cut the keys. Didn't need the NATS programming since I'd swapped the engine to TD42T.
They work at a much further distance than the factory stuff and batteries last longer.

This is what I have now. With the original keys there should be a small metal tag with a number that the locksmith can use to precisely cut a key rather than use a key copying machine.

Only because the Nissan setup is shite. I had endless issues. Changed it out and never looked back.

So I went for the $38 cheapy off eBay. The fob itself is made with metal and feels like decent quality. The instructions to program it were easy to follow and it worked first try. Has a range of about 10 metres. So far so good [emoji106]8736687367
