I have recently bought a 1997 td42 GQ and the guy I bought it from said that he thought it had a twisted crank, he couldn't show me it running cause the battery's were dead because it had been sitting since he thought he twisted the crank, got it home and started charging the battery's decided to see if it would start today after it had been on charge all night and it fired right up, looked for any pulsation in the clutch, none checked the harmonic balancer for any float couldn't see any, is the any other telltale signs of a twisted crank to check before taking the engine out?

If the crank was twisted i think the motor would be trying to jump out of the engine bay. If it idles smooth, enough for a TD42, revs up and down fine. I'd just leave it. The only sure way is to strip it down and have the crank balanced.

Not much of a TD42 whisperer but wouldn't imagine the crank would twist much before snapping. Guess if she runs good then happy days. .

You can check for engine vibrations. Pay attention to any excessive engine vibrations while the vehicle is running. If you feel strong vibrations that are not typical, it could be a sign of a twisted crankshaft.
